cd player... not a player anymore

not sure if I should post this in this forum or the interior/exterior section.... ah... oh well.

I have some electrical experience, and I think I know what that hot stick does with that melting metal stuff..... ;P

My cd player doesn't play. I took it apart and hooked it up to a power source to see what happens, the cd feeds in fine, spins, everything moves, but it just shoots it out after a sec, as if it was a coaster.
I assume this is probably yet another problem area of 2nd gens, but anyone know of a solution or a place I can get a replacement cd unit (not the entire stereo unit, they cost 150+!!)
any help is greatly appreciated!

Yup Try a lens cleaner CD for possible dust, other than that you might be able to find an optical pickup, that'll work... otherwise... new CD...

Clean that lense with a cleaner from best buy. You insert it like a regular CD. Or buy a new one.

Sorry, I didn't think of stating that lens cleaners don't work. I figured if I was going to go to all the trouble to rip it apart, the simple things were allready ruled out.

I know someone with another '90 vert, cd player has the exact same problem. I thought it might be a common thing...

I'm bringing this topic back from the dead again

Anyone found a solution yet? My car's awaiting a complete driveline swap, so it's not urgent right now.

I think it is probably the laser assembly like Icemark said, so does anyone know where I could get a replacement assembly?

thanks
