i see, i didnt mean to give you the run around.. im sorry about that. i am a nice guy as well but i had a problem with a customer recently. he had sent me fenders and i was super busy at the time and also in the process of moving so i didnt get to finish them. i offered to finished them at a later time and do some other things for free but he didnt want that. he just wanted his un-finished fenders back. i really didnt mean for all that to happen but it did. i dont want people to think im a theif because im far from that. anyway, i though you were that guy trying to ruin me.. also thanks for sticking up for me. my work is top notch, i have already been in magazines. im going to have my first COVER this coming spring. if you dont mind i would like to see your work. what kind of resin do you use? email me some pictures of your work if you can to CarbonFiberParts@aol.com also do you vacuum bag or wet lay? im guess you havent been doing it longer then a year and im interested to see how far into it you are.. hit me back, later bro

I would highly recommend SONIX7!
When I say highly, I mean it! I been on the forum for years and so far what I've seen, he has the most competitive pricing and does an excellent job. Also, by far best customer service I've ever recieved on the forum. That's pretty hard for me to say since I've probably made over couple hundred transactions just from this forum.

He's doing some of my work and I completely and totally trust him. Otherwise, I wouldn't of sent over 2k worth of interior and exterior parts.

yep, John not a problem. I know you do good work, when we spoke you told me that you were going to start vac bagging and things would be better for production and quality of parts. Yes vac bagging is the way to go. I want everyone to know that I have been working 24/7 since early October training and trial/erroring with this. My learning curve has been steep, but am handling it well. I am very serious about my work and my reputation, I am working to be the best at this and will do what it takes to make sure that happens. I use a custom vacuum bagging system, I use tons of different kinds of resins and products to create my pieces. I can't name just one. I use a professional paint booth with HVLP spray and Dupont brand clear coat. I am trained professionally in the art of paint defect removal and show quality finishes. John there is too much demand for high quality CF parts out there for me to sit back and do nothing. I saw a void and I filled it. Some have my parts, some have seen my parts, but very soon you will get the full scope of my skills. Until then I just keep working as hard as I can and let the work and customers speak for me, because I can't be throwing up links or anything, people need to think and ask where to find me. Sorry!!

We were doing this for a while for second stuff but I lost all intrest. Also if you have been using 2x2 weave try 4x4. 4x4 is like night and day compared to that crappy 2x2 that is mostly see through. If you are always going to do covers then 2x2 is ok but 4x4 is king when you are going to make a show quaility finished product. Here are some pics of some of my stuff. Good luck to you guys

Thanx for the input, me myself and I don't really care for the way the 4 twill weave presents itself when wrapped. It looks ok on a flat piece, but the 2 twill wraps corners the best besides plain weave to me. The FD is like a set of rolling hills full of contours and indentions. To each his own. Plus that has to drive cost up and how thick is that fabric? does it wet out good? how much of resin/fabric ratio does it require for wet out? I exclusively work with plain weave, 2 twill, carbon/kevlar 2 twill, texalium, stranded mat, boat cloth, you name it. I use the kevlar hybrid for reinforcement of weak parts and then laminate in CF. I also am doing an exclusive interior in yellow Carbon/kevlar accents. Probably the only yellow I will do, to keep it custom and unique. I use the rest of the materials for mold construction. I am moving into molding hardcore and will be making one offs very soon. The sky is the limit with CF. Performance parts are being researched as we speak, pipes and such. I do major custom stuff and my goal is to be the Carbonman(Ian) of the States. You want real knowledge look up his name and see what I mean.

yeah like I said before if you are just doing overlays the 2x2 and CF/Kevalr 2x2 weaves will work but once you get into your own molds you will be using the 4x4 all day long. You will notice when your 2x2 does not have a plastic backbone it is almost see through if you are using a 5.7 oz pattern. I only use 8.9 oz 4x4 twill. The red and blue CF/Kevlar in my pics was given to me when I ordered my last shipment of 4x4 and i wouldn't amagine it will be bending around corners well unless its used as a overlay. But good luck and I hope you work for cheap because 2nd gen owners are mostly 16-19 year olds with tight budgets.

I aim to do everything and anything! Obviously I own an FD and started with that. I hope to do more show quality and upper line cars. I am working on some RX-8 stuff also. I plan to get one of these next year to go along side the 7. I have one small boy and another on the way and want to still have a rotary powered sports car that all four can fit. I will always have my FD. By no means is this Carbon Fiber thing a hobby, I have spent thousands of my own money to set up a production facility. I am here to stay. Thanx for the good wishes, I choose to reinforce with texalium, its an aluminium coated cloth that has excellent strength and is dark when laminated. I understand what you are saying about seeing through the fibers, like my UIM covers are one layer of CF and one layer of texalium, simple as that. Unlike regular boat cloth and stranded mat that is yellow or clear and can see through.

I prefer 2 x 2 twill than 4 x 4 twill

I use a 241gram per square meter cloth with a weave set for most face work.
this cloth is a tight weave and shows nothing under the top layer.

for example a row boat I make in carbon fibre has only 1 layer of 241 over a 3mm Lantor Soric infusion core and 1 layer of 241 on the inside. The Soric is a white core and is not visable through the only layer covering it.

I also find the 2 x 2 twill drapes through compound curves very well, like on this engine cover for a triple rotor.

Ian.

From back in my DSM days.
]DSMTuner- Carbon Fibe Interior Thread

Its actaully not Carbon-Fiber but some sort of ultra-fancy gel-painting coating deal. Super tough, lasts forever, does not cheap, fade or peal. Something like $250 to get it done.

I don't have a problem with hydro-immersion finishes like the ones just posted above. It looks much better than the 3M overlays in my opinion and it's a lot more affordable than real CF wrapping. As I always say, to each their own.
