Carbon Fiber Hoods. Yes or No

So i have been looking around for a Turbo II hood in my area and havnt gotten much luck on ones in good condition. So now iv began to look at Carbon Fiber Ones online. The plan would to sand it down and paint the same color as my car. But im pretty worried that its not going to fit right like others on car forums have claimed with after market hoods. Any recommendations?

I said good not perfect. If you want perfect fitment stick to OEM. Come on you've been here over 10 years so you should know that by now.

Besides do you even realize what a 1" would look like? It would like the grand canyon... So please don't over exaggerate. The gap is about 1/4" too big and I've pointed it out in the past. But that's what you get when you have an aftermarket bumper and an aftermarket hood. The fact is the hood doesn't bulge out on places, it sits flush, doesn't hit anything, nor rub, the gaps are equally spaced through out its respective planes. So yeah that's good fitment. A perfect fitment would be just like OEM.

The color also exaggerates it quite a bit, even a VR car it would not look that big, and with anything darker colored (assuming FD colors) MB, BB, it would be hard to notice at unless the most discerning and high attention to detail persons were looking at it...

I know what you mean about aftermarket fitment problems. 10 years ago I bought the I'll fitting fiberglass replica scoot hood with rain gutters. I only paid $150 for it. Now I know why the guy sold it to me for so cheap because the fitment was horrendous all away around. I ended moving the hood forward on the hinges and doing a ton of body work to tighten the lines up. The nice thing about moving the hood forward is now I can open it fully virticle for display or engine pulls. Fitment looks oem right now but damn, it took me some time to get it right.

Add an extra clear to coat to avoid it from yellowing. Also buy one of high quality in order to avoid gaps with the fender lines.

Seibon in my experience fit great. I would bet most of that gap is from aftermarket bumper instead of hood.

We (roninspeedworks) have a mold for a FB carbon hood with rolled edges. It is factory appearance, just carbon. We recently had the mold re-done from a factory metal hood, so all the edges are perfect.

Back in the day, Fiber Images made the ones that fit the best. I haven't even looked at CF hoods for years since the FDs aluminum one is pretty lightweight, but for an MSP or Protege5, Fiber Images was the place to go.

EDIT: I don't think they even make them for an RX7.

They did make them for the FC as I've seen one in person. I think Fiber Images was out of Lancaster, CA but not sure if they're still in business.

Roninspeedworks, what is your asking price for the CF FB hood? It isn't on your web site. Also, do you have a replacement spring for the latch to compensate for the closing for a much lighter weight hood?

Pricing would be similar to our other Carbon hoods, maybe about ~100 cheaper since it is factory replacement. W don't have one listed since we have very little demand for FB parts. Shoot us an email for more info:
