I am guilty of carbon parts, but on the other hand I have a black FD. when tastefully placed carbon fiber on black cars looks great.
I plan on smoke coating all my carbon, so unless you are in bright light or using flash photography it would be hard to tell.
the reason why I wanted to do this is to reduce the "brown" effect that Carbon gives off when in bright light.
I like my modifications subtle, I want people to have to really take some time in order to see all the little details. I think that is what makes a clean car.

For what?
You asked for a picture of a CYM FD with a carbon hood...
What is there to do a write up about?
Why don't you use the search button, or better yet; Post you question in the correct sub-forum Interior / Exterior / Audio
P.S. Your Shitty attitude isn't going to help you gain any respect or help on these forums.

I didn't ask for a picture that was the person that started this thread but thanks. I only have an attitude because I just really can't stand when someone asks for help and the only reponses that they get are people being rude....

VIH hood
The mixture must be exact, 2 parts Aluzine clear with 1 part hardener. Deviate from this ratio and the finish will not harden or have a milky color. It hardens in 10 minutes, but I find it does so within 7 minutes.
Make sure to stir both the resin and hardener before mixing it. Especially the resin, which is thicker, I usually turn it over at least a dozen times the day prior before spraying.
Hope this helps, are you doing this or having someone else spray it?
Its best to mix the solution with 1/3 acetone and spray it. Make sure to finish within the 7 minute time frame or the internal parts of your spray gun will harden and end it. Clean the spray gun with acetone.
Curing time for this product is 3 days out of the sun and 5 days from heat. There are probably other resins for carbon fiber, but this is the only one I've worked with, besides doing fiberglass. Do not install the finished hood before this time frame or else it will wrinkle from the engine heat or fade in color.
I've talked to the guy who developed this product and he also recommended for further protection, one could also clear coat this coating. Hope this helps, I did my hood, looks allot better than before. However, deep cracks that expose the fiber cloth will not be resolved by this mixture, it will still show through.

Hawaiianredmako thanks for that brief write up, it has really helped with giving me an idea on how to restore my hood. what i was planning on doing is wet sanding with a low grit paper and spraying a clear coat on. I am in Japan so i dont have access to a lot of the things you mentioned. and even if they do have that stuff out here i wouldn't be able to read the labels lol!
Do you think that wetsanding and clear coating would make it look better than it looks already? or just mess it up?

The epoxy resin actually chemically bonds with the carbon fiber. Using clear coats mechanically bonds, I'm not sure how well it seals the micro cracks in the carbon fiber.
I'm not sure of the different expansion rates between the clear coat and the carbon fiber. It may cause further damage if they are not the same? Ask the other person if he has any problems with the clear coat.
Sure, wet sanding is fine, so long as its done right. I used a sanding machine that does cross-pattern method. Don't use the orbital ones, it will leave a pattern easily seen through the clear coat.
I started with #400 then # 800 and finally #1200 grit for clear coating my other car. The epoxy resin only needed #400 because its thicker and chemically bonds with the carbon fiber.
You can order this through www.fiberglasshawaii.com
PM me if you need further assistance

would you rather them start a brand new thread?
Quit bitching.
Besides, some good information has been brought to the surface since the revival of this thread.
I'd take a bump from an old thread anyday over a new thread
at least it shows that the new people are trying to use the search function.

rx7link i agree with you there about how it would be nice if the title was carbon fiber restoration or something but had i put that we would have a new thread with half of the replies saying "god why doesn't anyone research" or something like "read the FAQ noob" like this is my first tuner forum. lol
but yes thanks for the back guys and thanks hawaiian for the good info, i checked out the site you recommended and found the stuff you mentioned, but that may be a little to advanced for me plus i don't have a paint gun. I am not sure what i will end up doing, paying for restore or trying the wet sand clear coat route. i will keep you posted

I was just browsing through and found this guy from Japan asking for advice. Yeah, I'll do another write up and open a new thread with title "carbon fiber restoration" Hey go easy on the new guys, we're still learning how to navigate this resourceful site.
Is it possible to cut and paste a previous post to a new one? Saves time.
I could have just PM'ed this individual, but others will not have gotten this information.
I'm not sure if posting vendor sites need approval if someone wants to order something? In any case this particular vendor's site has some errors on it and I'll talk to them.
