carbon fiber hood on fd or not?

Well my hood is all screwed up so its time to get a new hood. One from the insurance company will cost me about 1000 or I can get carbon fiber and spend about 300-350. The hard part is finding out if carbon fiber is going to be quality or not. I want the hood and bumper to line up PERFECTLY and I also want direct replacement of the hood not some jimmy rigged POS that is never going to look or function right. I found this ViS hood on Ebay but idk anything about it so if you have bought it or know about it let me know.

If you want perfect fit, go OEM.

What is the actual question in this thread? Carbon fiber yes/no? or what aftermarket hood should you get (made of what material)?

If you're not getting another stock hood, then get one with vents...and if you're looking at a qaulity hood, you won't be paying 300-350 for it, as it will be a bit more.

Well my big thing here is I cant find an stock MB hood for the same price that I can have an OEM carbon fiber hood. My question is really where can I find a quality OEM CF hood.

If you are getting a CF hood, why not get something functional with vents? Otherwise look for a used OEM hood in the parts for sale section.

I'd honestly do more price shopping for an OEM MB hood. The OEM style CF hood you are looking at, won't guarantee the same fitment of a true OEM hood. Along with this is the hood latch...which may cause you problems with the aftermarket hood. That extra $$ (however much it is), may just be worth it if you're looking for peace of mind and nothing over the top.

Since you mention quality, I question how a 'CF hood' with such advertised quality manages to sell that low, when other reputable shops also sell CF hoods at a greater price equal to the R&D cost of designing such a hood. Sounds too good to be true...I'd look elsewhere personally.

fitament issues are always attached to aftermarket hoods.

Not always. I bought a RE N1 Carbon hood from Chuck at Rotary Extreme and it fits perfect. Of course, it was $1350, not $300 though Quality isn't cheap.

quality isnt cheap, and cheap isnt quality

Honestly Adidashatesnike, I personally say take the insurance check for the $1000.00, save a handful of bills, and get the FEED vented hood, it looks almost EXACTLY like the oem, cept it has 2 small vents towards the windshield. It is barely noticeable, and flows with the stock lines better than just about any other hood out there on the market today with vents. Function AND form can be had!

Scott,

I never heard the final word as to whether the hoods on ebay are actually VIS or copies of VIS. I was looking at getting the Knightsports style hood for my car from www.visracing.com I think it was going to be like ~$650 shipped, but the fitment is supposed to be good. Rotary Extreme is the best, but you'll pay twice as much.

Yep, and the N1 hood is beautiful. I've had my eye on it for a while, and look to place my order for one when it gets higher up on the priority list. I'd agree with RedR1 on the feed hood*, but also add that the mazdaspeed hoods are nice as well.

I stand corrected. rotary extreme products are first rate and if your into the mazda speed style Atilla's hood is the way to go.

Whoever you purchase your hood make sure it's someone you can get ahold of easily in case you have any problems. Some companies like importfan.com and vector racing will screw you over without a second thought...
