Custom, how long have you had your car?

I've had mine for quite a while and mine has scrapes all over it. As dgeesaman pointed out, you pick the right material for the right application. Unless you plan on extending it out like the RE UnderSweep which also acts as a front diffuser (so it needs to be stronger than plastic), there wouldn't be much point:

you are right on the point that you wil have scrapes and stuff on there. I agree with you on that. i have had this car for about two years and I had a 93 touring from 95-2002. I am familar with the cars I just like fabricated stuff. But i Think making it out of a metal is a better idea. Sorry for the problems.

guys, all you need is carbon with a layer or 2 of kevlar on the bottom for impact and scrape resistance

Yes, but the point is what will simply recreating the exact same part do, just switching materials? Nothing.

However, reproducing something like the RE Undersweep would be something different.

yes i totally agree. i wasnt commenting on what to make, just that carbon/kevlar could indeed be used for construction.

i have plans to make a functional lip/undertray for my own car using carbon/kevlar

I would make the part a flat part. Not like the factory one. I would make it flat with luvers I think that would work just as well. What you think

I got a price on the underhood cover. He said he can do it for $425 each or cheapier if we can get like 5-10 people to sign on for one. He said that these could be done in less than a month for start time and then shipped out to you. If anyone is interested let me know. I am #1 to get one so all we need is 9 more people for a really good price. These will be 100% Carbon Fiber and will look like the Panspeed one but at less than 25% the cost. Let me know

Custom,

That other cover which costs over $2000 is more than just a cover (which is why it's so expensive).

However, you might get more interest if you produced something like the cover in the picture above.

How much would the interior pieces cost done in CF, like the shifter and din panels, and the gauge hood?

I've "heard" that it also doubles is a stiffener like a strut tower bar. However, I've never seen it in person to see what's under the CF cover to verify that.

I assume he's referring to the RE UnderSweep pictured at the top of the page. The main problem is that particular undersweep is designed to go with their front bumper.

something like the re diffuser would be great, but it seems to be better made with impact resistant plastic than CF...you go over one steep driveway and the fiber is going to be curtains

the best way to make parts that are heavily exposed to grinding situations (->undercarriage) can best be made out of af combinaton of Carbon and Kevlar.

I don't mean the kind of carbon kevlar that is used in certain seats (here you have kevlar wires woven into carbon) anyone who knows about composites, carbon and kevlar should know they can never be used in the same tissue. On the other hand it's absolutely usefull to have one layer of carbaon and another of kevlar on it.
But NEVER mixed in one tissue.

Back to making parts. As Kevlar is superresistant to wear and carbon is higly effective for impact hits purposes it's opportune to have parts made by combining these composites in the part.

Carbonfibers will break as soon as it gets carved. It can stretch but will break when pushed together (bending a cf plate to certain point is possible, going further would mean breaking the lines on the in-side of the plate.
Once this happens you will have weak spot in the piece.
Kevlar will help too prevent to much stretch/bend but will on the other hand protect the carbon fibers from getting cut or damaged and so prevent weak spots.

Maybe it's of less importance to the most of you but being in the business I like to make the parts work for what they are meant

Making them out of polyester would therfore be a zero-point operation as it's impact/xear ratio is far below that of carbon or kevlar.
