Question car-speaker-adapters - Gap between adapter and stock speaker grill??? (FD non-bose)

Hey guys,

Trying to find out what the gap is between the car-speaker-adapter and the stock grill for an FD using the 6.5" speaker adapter. Need to order my speakers by tomorrow. Anyone have any clue?

My safe bet is to buy the Infiniti Reference 6520cx because another user installed the 6502s without any issues with the stock grille. However, I'd really like to buy the Infiniti Kappa 62.11i but they stick out 13/16" from the grille (vs. just over 1/2" for the 6520).

If someone could help me out I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Craig

I have the measurements somewhere, I'll have to look it up and get back to ya. The adapters are highly customizable though. I'm running JL C5 6.5's and the chassis was too large to fit in the adapters. So, I carved out some material and they're good to go!

Nice! Looks good. Are you worried about your tweeter at all in that location (is it behind the door or grille)?

Thanks!

Yes, I am a little worried about the location because the door panel does interfere with it some. However, I will be running a second set of imaging tweeters in the A-pillars. These tweeters will be more about giving my soundstage width, than clarity. The tweeters up high will do that job.

It's not ideal, but my goal was to keep the tweeters as close to the speaker as possible and not do what most people do, which is to mount them high up in the doors which doesn't give you the best imaging.

I am using FAST rings though, which will help funnel the sound into the cabin and not throughout the door panel.

Oh yeah, one other thing; you will want to trim the stock grille so you can have a better end result. I used a Dremel to get mine opened up...
