Is the car even worth it?

Hello to all.

PROBLEM: I have a 93 FD that is not running right now. It is not in great shape and I have spent almost $8,500 on it in the last year. It does not have a clear title either. I really do love the FD but I am not sure that putting a ton of money (more than I have already spent) into it is even going to make a it worth my time.

QUESTION: Should I put more money into it even with the title in the stated condition?

why don't you tell us a little more about it. What's left to be done, what's holding it up.....Did you buy it off someone with the title that way, or were you in an accident where it was "totalled.

I bought it this way. When I bought it, it had a new engine, turbos, tranny, clutch and wiring harness. I thought it would be a good car seeing as it had mostly new running gear. The Mazda dealership swore up and down that it was a great car and that I wouldnt have trouble with it. I have all the receipts from the work done there.

I want to go all out with the project. The exterior needs some serious TLC. I want to paint it a dark green and add either a 99 spec front or an R magic front bumper. There will be other things like an RE rear diffuser, FEED sideskirts and rear spoiler. After the exterior, i wanted to do a V8 conversion.

They only holdup is my reservations about the project being not worth my time or money.

well, the general rule of modifying cars is that you never financially get back what you put into it. and with all the people selling well modded FD's for under 20k, i'd expect it to ring true.

I think that is a good question, should he bother with a salvage title, or should he find a blown FD with higher milage, but clean, and mod that !?

I would agree though that it's a hobby, you don't buy Movies, or CD's cause you hope they'll be worth money someday do you !? If you have fun doing stuff for your car, in the hopes of riding it someday, or to go for a long cruise down the highway, it might be worth it, but if you're building a car, just to build it, and then sell it... I could think of better platforms to build. With less money lost in selling it.

and especially DCrosby who understood my question

I think I am going to keep the FD I have and start with all the parts that I have already bought for it.

Of course the car is worth it. With the right parts and the right amount of $$$$(this is the part im still working on) the cars are great reliable daily drivers, but it does take some serious cash to get them this way. Look up gmonsen and go to his signature...thats what it takes
