can you do this.

i found a place that sells sheets of carbon fiber , can i remove some of the plastic panles and wrap them with the carbon fiber. will the resion bond the carbon fiber to the plastic. to get a good finsh on the carbon i just really need to sand to a extremly fine grit. i know theres a little more to it but will it work and not come out looking like crap if i take time.

Yes, you can. You, obviously have not done this before so, I would suggest getting some extra plastic pieces to practice on. One very important thing you must keep in mind, the resin gets very hot depending on how much hardner you use. This can warp the piece you are working on and make it not fit properly.

thing is with resin, is that you have to mix in MEKP (lets try to spell this)........methyl ethyl ketone peroxide, which acts as a catalyst to the resin, causing it to cure via friction. If you add too much catalyst, its like adding too much propane for a grille, over heats, and can actually catch the container that the mix is in on fire..........ask me how i know

and no, im not going to bust out a ****** chemical chart thingy!

peace

Theres all kinds of stuff you can do to combat that problem. If i were you i would get a book on composites and check it out. They even have a resin that will not activate until hit by ultra violet light! That would get rid of your mixing/overheating problem. If you do this and it works out, start a post id like to check it out!

well my idea for my car 1980 rx7 sa is to cover all the plastic around the hatch glass with carbon fiber. then buy a sheet of carbon fiber to replace the rug in the back. i have a idea how ill still be able to get to the spare tire.

would it be a better idea to just make a mold of the plastic. if so can you guys recomend a good web site with pictures as how to go about it.
