My friend and I just finished painting my car and letting it cure for a couple of days. My question is how do i start with buffing process i already bought the 3m heavy duty rubbing compound and the machine glaze polish. Is there a special technqiue in buffing it out to a really nice shine? This is my first time buffing a car so i would like some detailed info if anyone can provide me with.

wet sand the clear coat with 1200 or 1500 grit sandpaper, use soapy water, use a meduim density sponge block under the sandpaper, stay away from corners and sharp edges, the clearcoat is usually thin here. make sure u get out all the orange peel and dust( if any)

buff slowly, a small area at a time, put masking tape on the edges and sharp corners, this way u wont burn tru the clear.

good luck

When Garfinkle was building show bikes and painting a few cars ,everything was hand sanded and rubbed out. No mechanical buffers used ,and the finished product was beyond compare . Very time consuming. Look at the surface of an orange, very uneven, that is orange peel. you sand that smooth then polish the sanding marks out . hand work will yield a finish that will reflect an image with color, everone will be impressed for sure .
