Unhappy BOSE Stereo/Speaker Replacement Advice needed!

Yes, I've searched the forum. My middle BOSE speaker has blown out, and my CD player is 100% dead!

What I'm wondering is this -- I opened up the middle speaker port and disconnected the speaker via it's little connector item. Are replacement drop-in speakers made for the RX-7 Bose system anymore? Surely some are available.

2) Seeing as the CD player is broken, should I take some different route altogether, like an aftermarket stereo? How much would a stereo comparable to the BOSE with a CD player cost, and how much extra money/parts are needed to make it work with my BOSE speaker/sub setup?

as for the center speaker. I think you can get it from he dealer. I've also heard u can get them cheaper if you go directly through BOSE but I've never tried.

Iwould go with an aftermarket headunit. Is not a hard install at all. You'll need the wiring harnesses ($10-$15), and an adapter for the bose system ($20-$30).

The first time around I put in an alpine deck in place of my BOSE and the difference in sound was like night and day. IT was one of the higher end alpines, but I would think any good nam brand ehad undit would sound better thne the BOSE.

You can go to any car audio shop and ask for a wiring harness for your car. They should give you a packge with 2 harnesses inside. 1 large and 1 small the larger one should have 7 or 8 wires and the other will have 4.

If you go after market you will need hard wire the remote turn on from the headunit to the remote wire off of the factory harness. I just installed my Alpine this weekend and that was the only hard part becasue not much room to work inside the dash area.

BTW don't forget the antenna adapter. I had to order one from Crutchfield a male to male, because when you remove the Bose main unit the antenna connector in not a normal one. You will have to trace it back to the on the passenger side of the center console and disconnect the short 1 foot cable. There will be 2 connections, you will only have to use the larger of the two as this is the on efor the outside and the other is the in glaass on with the defrosters.

Yeah you'll need those 2 adapters and you'll need the bose adapter. Just goto any audio shop and tell them that you have a bose system and they should know wut you need, you can also buy them from best buy, curcuit city, crutchfield, etc. Its nothing alien to an audio guy cuz this same adapter has to be used on alot of cars that have factory "premium" sound systems.

I didn't use this adapter and it sounds 100 times better than stock.

Wired the speaker outputs from head unit to the wiring harness plugged right into the factory harness and hard wired the remote turn on for the amps. The thing that you have to keep in mind is that the Bose systems is already running off of the speaker level inputs. Meaning using speaker wire from head unit to the amps. This adapter is really only just a volume control so you can crank the headunit volume.

I only go maybe 10 or 11 on my Alpine and it not only sounds better but it is louder. With the Bose headunit I basically had it all the way up and it still wasn't as loud or clear.
