Bose rear speakers - no sound

Hi
My 93 touring fd came with the original bose sound system, but the rear speakers don't seem to be working. I've been debating whether I should get a new head unit or not but I really don't want to deal with adapters, install kits, amp wiring...So before I end up spending lots of money on a system that might only sound a little better, I'd like to get this system fully working. So I've got a couple questions: Where should I start? I don't even know where the amp for the rear wave speaker is!? Oh, and the rest of my system isn't in very good shape either.. center speaker pops a little (on and off) when I switch on the radio, and other times simply doesn't work..and the CD player spits out any CD I feed it instantly.

You are experiencing most of the common problems with the Fd's old system. You can research them all and review but there really are no fixes. The system is just old and worn out. You can send the head out for a new laser and it might read disks better. Playing burnt disks is worse than store bought.
This guy repairs the heads:

Your rears mostly likely have a blown amp. They just get old and brake. You can send it to bose for a complete rebuild for $75.00.

here's a note I got from Bose when I was thinking about doing it:

We can repair the speaker/amplifier assemblies at a cost of $75.00 each
if
you an remove them and send them in to us. The timeframe is
approximately 3
weeks and we will need your mailing address to forward the paperwork.

Please let me know if you are interested in sending the speaker
assemblies
in to us for repair.

Thank you for choosing Bose Corporation.
