blue gauges?
blue gauges?
are there any gauge kits to make the dash gauges light up blue at night i thought i saw a kit somewhere from i think mazdaspeed or could i just replace the backlights with blue LEDs, any thoughts?
No, that'd definitely be custom. The backs of the stock gauges have an orange/amber film that has to be sanded/peeled off, as this is what gives it its color. I think I saw a post where a member was able to do it, and assuming you did the same, you could simply replace the bulbs.
I bought those for my 7 when I had one. and it didnt last long. And I heard an annoying ringing comming from the kit...... I bought one off of Ebay for around 34 plus i think 10 shipping. This was about 2 years ago.
those are from ebay. u can right click on the image and open in new window to see the link where it was from. I bought a set, but with better looking font that matches Defi gauge fonts.. but haven't installed them yet
i don't think anyone makes black face w/ blue lighting. But I believe NR gauges used to have white face that light up green. which looks similar to 99 spec gauge cluster at a glance (whiteface/green lite). I haven't seen their stuff around.. don't know if they're still in business

i really hate the blue lit gauges. they hurt my eyes after a while of driving.
red / orange is a nice color used by military and other high end car companies b/c they don't fatigue the eyes as much as other colors.

Pretty much. Make sure you get blue LEDs with a wide scatter (not too sure what the technical term here is) so that you don't have blotchy illumination.
Agreed. On my old 240sx, I replaced the stock bulbs with red 194s because I didn't like the bright white.

another thing you can consider trying... i've helped one of my friend remove his FD's gauge cluster long time ago to convert the numbers into white. I took out the gauge face and scraped off the orange coating behind the face with a razor, and the cluster light up white after that.
with the gauge glowing white, you can get colored rubber lightbulb condoms to change the light color. or use a marker and color behind the gauge face after you scrap off the orange.
if you're a crafty person, that's totally do-able ... but i would buy a cheap cluster off ebay to try instead of experimenting w/ your originals.... just a thought
