Black Cat Custom Gauge Faces to match Greddy

I spoke with Alex at Black Cat Custom about doing a gauge face setup that looks exactly stock but has a light green backlight to match Greddy Gauges. I offered to send him a gauge cluster and a greddy guage so that he can match them up exactly. He said he would be glad to do the extra work to get it matched as well as possible because it is likely others would like to do it also. He will be sending me pics before final manufacturing that I will share on this thread if anyone is interested. Retail on these faces are $109 plus $8 shipping.

Sounds pretty good to me. Curious though.. What about the rest of the interior lighting? Isn't it orange too? I forget... Been so long since mine has ran..

His replacement is for all faces including ac controls etc. There are a few other things that will need attention but I dont think it will be very much.

Have you done a gauge face replacement? Are you considering doing it?

Thanks!

They seem like they are running a great outfit up there. I was thinking of doing something similar to what you are, but to match my Autometer Cobalts(blue). They will do pretty much any backlight color it seems. I will be interested to hear the results and how closely they match your Greddy gauges.

I have not had them done, nor am I looking to get it done, but I was going to do a group buy on them once before to help people out that do want them. Only because i live so close and would be able to do the shipping for alex. He sent me a couple of pages of work he has done (stuff thats not on the site) to give me an idea of what he is capable of doing. Unfortunatley the GB fell through because the web host wanted a cut of the money. I was doing this out of kindness for fellow 7'ers and was making no money off of them. I was'nt going to pay out of my pocket to make the web host happy so i stoped it

I was trying to do the same thing about 4 months ago and didn't ever get the artwork back to complete the sale. He must have been busy or something. I would be interested in these also since I have Greddy gauges. Although I have the white faced ones, so if he could make them with a white background and green letters with green backlighting that would be perfect.

Volley: Those are already available as a standard item with him. I have them installed on my car.

Not the best picture but you can see the ac and blower controls.

I am actualy getting something similar from him. I am having him do the gauges in my S5 to match my after market Apexi El gauges the ones with the black face and white lettering and the lettering lights up blue. I sent him the gauge cluster about 2 and a half weeks ago but due to him not being able to pick it up from his US address until the beginning of this week they wont be done until 01/21. The gauges and all the extra lighting plus the shipping is only going to be 200.00 I think its a great price considering he has to do extra lighting and the custom faces. the original reason I'm getting it done from him is because tehy dont have any nice after market gauges for an S5 turbo they only have them for an S5 non-turbo. I will post some pics as soon as I get them back in the car!!

Cool, I will give him a call then. I just got a new gauge cluster in because I screwed up my speedo putting in a different set of white face gauges. I am almost tempted to just sell all my Greddy gauges and buy Defi BF Series gauges so I don't have to spend another 170 bucks replacing my gauge cluster.

manatecu: You got any other pics of the gauge faces? Maybe a night pic too?

I was just curious as to if anyone has successfully changed the color of their guages. Are the lights just lit up by the 4 bulbs (12v 3.4w; 51-030J ; 99701-6030) with the brown Toshiba mounts (55-261 No.2 ; FD01 55-261)? I was wondering if there was somewhere I could look for LED bulbs or even replacement bulbs. I'd really like to get green LEDs to match the Defi guages if possible, but want to make sure that I have it down to the correct bulbs. Oh yeah...application is a '93 RX-7. Thanks.

Ok I found the bulbs are 194/194LL wedge type.

I've been looking at this site http://www.superbrightleds.com/mini-wedge.html

Looks like there's some options.

Hey guys,

Just thought I'd throw it out there if anyone's interested... I almost went w/ Black Cat, but my issue is I'm SUPER ****, and can easily tell from the look & texture of the faces that they're thin covers. I wanted something OEM-quality and/or greater. So I actually had a completely new face (the entire thing) designed and made w/ my custom specs. It's a bit more expensive & takes longer too, but that way I can match any texture, look, lighting, etc. And can even change the readout (diff rpm, diff top speed etc) as I'd like, and recalibrate the cluster to read as such. So it's not just limited to changing the font.

Just my $0.02,
~Ramy

120 is nothing, i would love this depending on how easy it is to change these out. and yea if they looked close to the greddy gauges i might actually be willing to get off my *** and do it. green>orange. right now it doesnt bother me too much, i knew going in my gauges were opposite what was in the cluster. but if i had the option greddyfying the stock gauges sounds way cool.
