Angry Beware of the sun light with the tripower

Dash pod because if u have your car at idle and sitting in the sun light it will get very hot and burn the housing, mine 2inch water gauge put a heat soak dent on the top of of the pod. If I did not turn on the a.c. it would have fired it. Now my once cool looking dash is now looking like ****.

Hi Rx7aholic,

Did you have your car sitting in the sun prior to you driving it? Did it only damage your gauge pod or your dash/gauges also? How long have you had it? Pics by any chance? I was interested in the tripower pod so was interested in the quality . - Tommy

Well, for $99, I hope they move to a better material for this application. I'm not floating a c-note to end up with a blob of plastic on the dash...

Let us know what TriPower does to fix this for you...

Well guy's the gauge pod it's not really thick quality of plastic. However my dash did not melt only the pod on the upper portion of it, it's sort look like it had a dent there. I was very luckly to catch intime, also I had the car running in the sun for aleast for 45 minutes. Also I check the bulb that goes in the back of the gauge it's a 5 watt bulb is that too much watt for a small bulb? Also it's there is not much room in the pod for the heat despaiate.I goona have call the tripower company and see if they want to replace my pod if not then I have to deal with until I replace it. life suck's.

Hi Rx7aholic,

You might want to use the Autometer dual gauge pod for a Mustang (not sure what year), but I believe it replaces their clock. It will hold two 52mm stock and you can easily dremel and sand down to hold two 60mm gauges. It does not sit extremely extremely flush since it is contoured to a Mustang and there are little (very little) 1/16 gaps near the windshield side. It sits over the center speaker hole also. Just food for thought if you are looking for a replacement. Cost between $30-45 depending on where you buy it. -- Tommy

Hey RX7aholic,
Contact Tri-Power as soon as you can for a replacement. We've had guys in Texas on 100+ degree days with their car in the sun all day have no problems. You might just have a bad shot from the molder (it happens). Also...Did you up the watts on your gauge bulbs? My autometer uses 2 watt bulbs. I've seen guys replace their bulbs with 5+ watt halogens only to melt their cool looking gauges. Just a note.

Greetings everyone. This is the first time posting to the Forum (be gentle). I have been on the "Big List" now for 4 years but seldom posted, so now I figure I'll give the forum a shot too. Anyhow, I have manufactured some awesome triple gauge pods ("Tri-Pod") for the center speaker location and wanted to post them for sale. Cruise on over to my cheesy little web page and let me know what you think.

BTW, The Material I use on mine is THICK walled, injection molded ABS plastic (roughly 5/32", almost 3/16"). I have had my 1st prototype in my car for 6 months, and it can get damn hot! It has not melted or deformed in anyway.

Take a look and let me know what you think.

Thanks;
Frank.

Those look very cool. Do you have any pics of the quad gauge installed?

Actually the "Quad-Pod" shown is my first prototype. It has a very minor fitment issue that I need to work out. That and I only have the (3) Defi gauges and (1) Autometer boost gauge, I thought that it would look pretty bush advertising it that way. I'm not to sure when I'll get back to the "Quad-Pod", depending on the general interest will dictate for me when I resolve the fitment issue, probably next week though. If you are serious about one though let me know, I could fab one up and take some pics and/or i-escrow one to you. Lead times may be awhile though.

Frank.

Mine has sustained quite a bit of sun and I have seen no problems. It sat in 100 degree sun all day for three days in a row. Still looks new.
