Bob can help you. Super honest too. I once sent him 4 amps to be fixed. He sent them back, all tested out to be ok. No charge. Turned out to be my head unit.

Hmmmm,

It makes a popping and scratching sound. No real music comes out of it. When I turn the system on and off it makes a popping sound.

Do you think that is the head unit or the amp?

It's almost certainly the amp. Send it off to Bob. If it's not the amp, he will send it back.

It's MUCH less expensive to just buy a working used one then to send it to the big B.

where did you find one, and how hard would it be to replace the speaker with a normal aftermarket one?

I bought the speaker from Fritz and the Amp from another member. They work great and cost me less than $50 for both shipped together.
