AutoMeter Nexus gauges
Does anyone have any personal experience with these gauges? I am trying to decide on them...I really like the features and the gauge design itself, but I've read that they have a lot of problems such as the needle will stick or the sensors go bad...or just bad control units. I really don't want to deal with those problems, so I'm wondering if anyone here has them and can give personal experience, or if anyone knows if AutoMeter has corrected these problems.

I know...I don't understand it, but I know. AFAIK they don't offer a speedometer or tach (yet) in the nexus line. I just know that people WERE having problems with them, and I wanted to make sure that this was either an isolated few cases or that it was an initial problem that has been solved.

They have been making them since this past SEMA I think. And I know AutoMeters rarely have a problem, but these are the first that they've tried this system with...trying to give Defi BF some competition, and I think the just had some bugs to work out. I'm sure I'll hear from them Monday or so, but I just wanted to see if anyone on here knew first

Nope, I like the Nexus. Here's what I got in a PM today on nsxprime (another forum I visit)
I just saw your post on Auto Meter's Nexus gauges. I work for Auto Meter in marketing and actually was on the orginal Nexus design team in 2004. Nexus really raised the bar in features for a gauge. Nexus introduced many "firsts" to the marketplace such as full red dial warning alert, 7 color LED lighting, PC download and PC communication for updates. Nexus did have minor issues upon intial release however two years later, we've corrected those and are shipping Nexus "bug free." Nexus did not introduce any new sensor or stepper motor technology to Auto Meter as we'd been using it for several years therefore are very familiar with it. My point to the last statement is that Nexus is very accurate, precise and responsive. Aside from all the glits and glamour to Nexus it is a highly functional and useful product. If you have any questions pre or post purcahse, don't hesitate to ask. Let me assure you we've sold litterally, thousands.

I have the AutoMeter Nexus gauges for Boost/Vac., Water Temp., and Oil Temp. and I don't really have a problem with them. The full-dial alert is really convenient cause I don't have to be always looking at the gauges. I don't know if it's just these gauges or all gauges in general but if you stall or your car dies, the gauges have to restart, and it takes a few minutes for them to restart. They get stuck in the position they were at when the car was suddenly stopped. But other than that, I really like them.

spoke too soon:
I realized after replying to you that I forgot to mention that a matching 3 3/8" speedo (160mph) will also be available at the same time as the tach.

I ordered my Nexus boost and EGT gauges a few days ago...once they're installed (may be a few weeks due to lack of funds right now) I'll take a lot of pictures and a few video clips if you want me to

i still find myself getting upset when i have to read about people dissing autometer. like they'd ever notice any difference, if there were any. it always amazes me that the fact that autometer is probably the leading mfgr of gauges used in racing seems so lost on people whose primary use of gauges is starin' at the pretty colored lights... would i prefer apexi el liquid filled gauges? prolly. they just don't make speedos and tachs and i want my gauges to match.

It sounds as though you have some pull around there? Maybe you should contact them and see if you can get the ball rolling.

Even if you don't have them installed yet, some pics would be nice. How do they look and feel quality wise? Hows the sending units, etc... Where did you decide to purchase them?

Here's the breakdown Gordon.
1)Tach (A larger version than the one offered now)
2)Speedo (200 mph version)
3)Oil Pressure
4)Fuel Pressure
5)Fuel level
6)Boost
7)Water temp
8)Oil temp
9)EGT temp (two would be nice one for each runner, would it work with autometers setup?)
10)Wideband Air/Fuel gauge
That should be enough, no?
