Attn 1st Gens with Custom kicks - need advice
I've already asked a few around here (Max7 for one), but I was hoping others may have input as well.
I'm considering replacing my front speakers with some custom enclosures in the lower front kick panels. Ideally I'd like to attain a good front soundstage where the location of instruments, vocals, etc. can be determined. I have a healthy budget and a lot of time to do it right, but from anyone who's got custom kicks down there, I'm wondering if it IS actually possible to achieve a coherent stage image. My thinking is that if vocals can distinctly be heard from 2 seperate side locations with your eyes closed (rather than the voice being defined as a single source in the center of the stage) then the image is not quite good enough.
Would very much appreciate your thoughts... Can it be done?

i believe it can be done
i am still trying to decide where to place my 6.5" components
there is a place in B.C that will make the custom pods for $120
i am also considering installing them in the bottom front part of the door,
but would really rather use the kicks for the same reasons
obviously we'll loose the "dead pedal", and possibly a bit too much
leg room.
if i remember correctly max 7 used jetta pods that fit pretty nice actually. I
wonder if it would be possible to use the cheap Q-logic pods say from a
honda crx or something

Nick, my intention was to cut out the current panel completely out and replace it with a custom enclosure that would protrude only about as far as the carpet legde and would allow the driver to be recessed at an angle inward toward the fender.
Now I haven't actually ripped into that area to see if it's viable, because my first step is to understand what's possible in terms of front imaging. If I can't possibly get good results then really it's not worth it for me.
The basics of cdt audio is to mount the tweeters on top of the dash and pass lower frequencies to underneath... It's something worth considering, but I wonder if there are any good A-Piller moulds that would support a decent installation in that location...
