Wink Areo Parts fiberglass RE-A replica hood/Bonnet

I just received today (within a week of payment). It has a chip, finish is well needs to be refinished (sanded/preped, etc), a couple flaws that look like paint cracks, and one part it is spliting on the edge. I though about having a layer of carbon fiber placed on top but VIS wouldn't do it (they don't manufacture in US). They would be will to do carbaon fiber replica's but i'd have to finish mine to be a good mold. I don't see any waves and I haven't tried to mount it yet so i'll post that tomorrow or so. Is the spliting of the fiberglass layers a returnable issue or is that easily repaired when prepped for paint?

do you have the info on where to orer the hood? it looks great even if i had to count on what you got as far as a damage list for the right price it would not be an issue

hood is black fiberglass with a gel coat on top. I used my camera phone so there is not much detail (1megapix). It was packaged well. I especially like the wooden corner protectors. On the 2nd pic you can see the knife inside the seperation. I assume it can be fixed but I have no idea. I can't test fit it untill tomorrow. I don't know how safe the latch is without hood pins but the RE-A curves dowanward in the center, opposite of the Scoot which should help push the hood down and stay closed.

VIS does not make the hood (currently) but they were willing to make it if there was a group buy purchase. If it fits excellent and I can fix the flaws then it would be a good original for the mold. I would imagine they would want like 10 people to make copies in carbon fiber but considering the cheapest replica is over $1k and if they bring it down to KS or Scoot pricing of $500 then i'm sure there would be enough takers.

is that the gtp/import fan hood? I had a friend order one and the fitment was horrible, their was a 2 inch vertical gap between the front bumper and hood.

considering i make FC hoods that is a very easy fix. Some epoxy or black rtv will fix that in no time. Very easy fix.

The company is aero_parts and it is from ebay. I expected alot of sanding/prepping for paint but did not expect the layers to be splitting nor the latch not to be centered. Either it's not centered or they is a big gap on one side. It also is lower then the hood but since it takes two people to screw on the hinges, I could not do it. I have no idea how good or bad the gap is to the bumper, since it's off. I am awaiting a reply from the company. I am allways leary of company's that charge alot for shipping and lower the part cost because they never refund shipping, which means they don't want you to return it.

does'nt look too bad, you just have to make the holes bigger on the hood brackets so you can adjust the hood..

You are my twin panda for now till you paint it..lol...

I didn't see any access to the hoods bracket. I will take another look after lunch. If that is the case then i'll just even out both sides and maybe I coild live with some gap. I does not have studs (like OEM) for the rear brackets but threaded holes for the bolts it came with. Not as secure with that but that's not the side that would lift up, so it's ok. Haha, do you have pics you could post KaiFD3S (especially of latch if bracket is visible?

ok, spoke with Dan and he was very helpful. I forgot it said "non" refundable so I will have to work with it. He said the split is fixable with some kind of glue stuff but it wil cost me an extra 1-2 hours of labor which takes away from the savings. I mentioned the latch but he recomended trying to move the assembly on the frame if possible. I'll have to look at that cause I doubt it will go side to side. I looks like the bigger holes would be the solution but it makes me nervous. How secure will it be with the holes widened?

Don't trip I had to widened my holes on my vis hood and I went 140+ with no hood pins.

I have no idea if the place I bought it from sells them seperate. They never answered any of my emails but the customer service was excellent over the phone.

$250 + $150 ship (non-refundable) + how ever much it costs for the split, chips, prep, fitting and paint. The carbon fiber knightsport replica would have been alot less since I could have picked it up local but it's not as rare as the RE-A. The Scoot is just too extreme for me and if I did get one i'd modify the duct for the turbo instead of the brake booster.

If it's an even gap all the way back on the passenger side then do the trick mentioned previously with making bigger holes on the hoods latch hoop. If that was all that was wrong with yours, you got a better deal. I think have a carbon fiber scoot hood listed this week but with fiberglass you can fill, widen, shrink and whatever during prepping for paint.

You can get clear fiberglass resin to fill in that hole for cheap at Home Depot. Take you 10 minutes worth of work, $15 worth of stuff, and then just let it sit for a day to cure.
