Anything to make black paint interesting?
I'm looking into repainting my brilliant black FD, but "brilliant" just looks like plain black to me.
Are there any effects, paint addatives, or special colors that will give black paint a little character?
I'm NOT going for the "fast & furious" look. I want it classy, but with a little flair and originality if you know what I mean. I want depth....or something. Some zang.
Just want to look into all my options before I just paint it plain black again.
Lets pretend this is a cost-is-no-object project.
Thanks

I always thought it would be cool to paint a car with that chalkboard paint. Black or green, it wouldnt matter to me. Then you could change decals and designs as often as you want.

The metallic flakes/pearl basically makes the car appear a slightly different tint or hue at angles, and up close if you look into the paint it gives it some texture rather than just a gloss plain black.
If you look on BMW's and other higher end black cars, or even newer black cars, you'll often see the metallic/pearl being used now.

I posted these back when the forum wouldn't choke on pic uploads.
I don't know the name of the paint, but it's a very nice metallic-type black.

I was thinking about doing either a pearl black type thing, or a black with a tiny red tint to it.
I dont want anything that screams BLING BLING- but something you have to look at to notice its not "just" black.

Try any of the M3 Blacks (BMW at least).
One is deep blue/black the other is gunmetal/black. I would look into those that mix gunmetal and black, and this Carbon Black from BMW...

Saw a classic mini with chalkboard paint (or whatever it was) at the Rivearra-run in may - they made as many people as they could sign it!
It's great fun if nothing else!

APC?? did this to a new civic a year or two ago. I believe they used both colors green and black and had drawn different designs on it with chalk.

Also can try a tinted clearcolor. It will give you highlights. Ex: Black paint w blue highlights.
