Anyone know how to take out the passanger airbag for the 94-up FD?

Ive taken out the stock steering wheel for a sparco one, and got rid of the Air Bag sensor for my car already, so why should my passanger get one? So anyone know how to take it out?

marvin,

just a few months ago werent you talking about how you would NEVER remove the airbag from your car since you felt it was life-threatening? i swear that i remember you saying something like that...

anyway, im pretty sure you can access the passenger airbag from under the dash, after pulling out the glovebox. i have a 93 with no airbag on the right side, but this is my guess, since the dashboard is pretty shallow and the glovebox goes pretty high up in there on the 93. id imagine that there are a few screws holding the top airbag cover in that need to be removed from the bottom, inside the dashboard, and then the rest of the airbag apparatus could probably be removed from the top after lifting the cover. that is my guess. if that isnt the case, you will probably have to just pull the whole dash out, which would not be worth the effort, in my opinion. if you removed the airbag sensors, then it is just sitting dead in there anyway.

it's been a while but if i remember correctly, you have to first remove the glovebox. then there are 4 bolts holding the entire airbag assembly in. remove the bolts and then just lift the entire airbag from above.
you definately don't have to remove the whole dash.

I dont believe I ever said that, but I could be wrong, but Ive been without my airbag sensor since Ive had a Cwest bumper. Actually its pointing the wrong way, since I had problems using the stock position mount for it. I think maybe I ment that for other people who have working air bag systems... Ive been having alot of electrial issues with my car for awhile now, so if my air bag worked I probably would have kept it or tired to. But then again, Ive been hearing alot of horror stories about airbags so my position on them has changed abit

I have had many cases where air bags have saved the lives of most of my friends flying out the window, and be sides that, I have a CF/FG hood and bumper, not much to absorb any impact, so sure its all nice to have a Sparco race steering wheel, but when **** goes wrong, I'd like to still be able to walk away...

Anyways all automobile companies now employ air bag systems in their car to prevent injuries for a reason, and I plan to keep it that way too. There's a difference between a trailer queen and a daily driver. My car is not a trailer queen.
its cool though. i have changed my point of view on many issues. i also took the airbag out of my fd and replaced the factory tiller with an efini wheel.

dont let the airbag explode in your face when you are pulling it out

good find!

actually I do still think airbags are a good safety device, however they do sometimes go wrong and end up doing more harm then good. But If I wanted to live a safe and dull life, I would have never bought an FD and start to modifying it. I really wish I could keep my airbag, or find a decent steering wheel with one, however, I havent. I like to have fun with my car, even at the risk of hurting myself, and just basically ran out of things to moddify, so a new steering wheel was soon to come one way or another. I actually do still believe what I said in my post, but I tend to never do what I preach, which makes me a hypocrite . Safety is important and should always be..... but Im a car freak, so what can I say. Its like a crack addict telling people not to smoke crack cause it will kill you. You caught me there, and all I can do is apoligize . never ment to go back on my words, but my car got the best of me, what can I say?

its all good man. think of it this way...

a fast car with no airbags is still safer than a bike with no seat belts or steering wheel to even put an airbag into!

good luck with that airbag removal. i doubt you will bring in enough change from it to justify the work to remove it though, unless you know somebody that has recently rear-ended somebody and is getting reimbursed for an airbag from insurance. the market for used airbags for our cars sucks ***, mine is still sitting in my garage in the stock steering wheel.

oh, and if you want to get rid of the "beep beep" and dummy light from the srs system, and you are too lazy to remove the entire computer, you can just pull the bulb from behind the gauge cluster and unplug the srs computer's power. one or two of the bolts that holds that thing in are a pain in the *** to get to.

btw, if anyone needs a stock steering wheel and airbag, hit me up! $150! rx7speed811@hotmail.com
