anyone familar with pioneer products?

ok guys, i have a slight problem. i just received my brand new pioneer AVH-P7500DVD and i was soo anxious to put it in that it started to drizzle and i didnt care, i just closed the doors and started to work on it..lol

anyway, first off let me tell you that i installed many radios in my day, nothing to hardcore like doing multiple speakers and subs and double amps or anything like that, just the normal headunit stuff and i installed my amp once and that was it..anywhoo, i go wire everything up, using my harness i had from the previous headunit i had which is also a pioneer. i match the wires according to color, after 20 minutes, i plug the 2 harnesses in and i turn the key to acc and nothing. the display didnt glow or anything, it grounded it correct, i double, triple and quadruple checked my wiring and it was fine..i then popped open the security face clip and i saw a red dot blinking on and off, thats when i knew it least its working (or maybe not?) but it was blinking.

i even used the remote that came with it and i cant get it to turn on...after about an hour of frustration, i just disconnected it and decided to maybe go to a professional and have them do it..but i know i can do it, i done it soo many times, thats whats making me mad is cause i did it right but i cant get it to work.

my question is, what are the chances of this item being defective? this thing is brand new, unopened box and everything. how many of you guys with pioneer ever witnessed a defective unit like this?

and my second question is i was reading the manual after i quit on this and i read that it said to push the reset button before using this unit for the first time. is this really mandatory? i know the manual says it but i didnt have to do this to my other pioneer unit..what do you guys think?

i might try that reset button thing monday and if that doesnt work, ill just take it to a professional and pay the 50-100 whatever dollars..

the reset button only makes sure that the memory settings are set to default (and not some random ones induced from when the IC's were made)

Check that it's getting power - it sounds like it may not have an ignition-live coming into it. Get your multimeter out and check the RED wire

well i went back and i did the reset button before turning the key to ACC and nothing. i even got my meter out and i checked volts to the yellow wire and the red and both of them are getting the necessary volts. i then grounded it and and then that stupid red light was blinking again, so i know its gettingpowered but nothing is coming on, no display or nothing. i even tried turning it on with my remote and nothing.

i mean even if its defective, then the red light shouldnt blink at all? if it is, its getting power so the damn thing should turn on.. i think im just gonna take my unit to a professional and have him inspect it rather than have them put in my car for 50+ bucks, i already have the harnesses wired and all, i just need to plug it back into the radio..

where did you check the power for when the car is on? Try to unplug the clip that goes into the radio and check it on that, maybe its just a bad connection. All the blinking light is really gonna tell you is that you have constant power and a ground. If you are postiive you have power moving through every line, then check some fuses. Maybe during your install you crossed something, if that doesnt work I would exchange it for a new one and try it again. If still nothing then go to a pro. If youve done it before, then theres no real reason to bring it to a pro, simple stereo installs arent very hard to do, and no one should be charge 50-100 dollars for someone to plug something in.

thanks for the help guys, i really was relying on someone knowledgable to answer my question..

ok here is the update. i went to my local professional audio installer, about 8 blocks from me, he is really good. i brought all my equipment to show him whats the deal. i asked him what it would cost to do the install and he said like 200 but that could change. i told him that im not gonna install an amp or other tvs so he doesnt have to do anything special, just hook up the unit.

the problem i had was i didnt hook up the hide away unit to the headunit, i guess they work in conjunction with another, thats why it wasnt turning on. so he did that for me to show me and it worked, i was like damn. that easy huh? but then he told me that you have to add all these noise filters and magnets to the window and im like, i was just wanna listen to my cds and watch dvd, i could care less about tv tuner or gps for now. i think he told me that so i can have him install it.

my question to you guys again is, i know already what to do now, i was studying his wiring.. do i have to install all the noise filters like he said? im only gonna listen to cds and watch dvd, no tv tuner or gps. he also said that these noise filter things help reduce amp usage or power usage whatever. is he BSing me?

another thing is he told me about the parking brake wire, something about that you can watch tv while driving, does he mean watching tv tv? or dvd?

cause whats the point in have this if you cant watch it while driving, well i mean not while driving but at least have it on and maybe if you're waiting for someone at the store, you can watch it. cause my next door neighbor has one and the dvd plays while he drives.. im lost here.. ???

and in the manual, it said its illegal to have the dvd monitor in the way of the driver, the fd has it low to the shifter so that wont be a problem..

I'm in the middle of installing a Alpine IVA-D300 DVD player

I don't know why you didn't install the hideaway module in the first place. I don't know how yours looks but on my Alpine nothing really connects to the headunit itself except for a harness for power and a line to go to the hideaway unit where everything else connects to.

The display will not show a dvd movie or tv unless you are parked. It's a built in safety feature that limits liability for the manufacturer from being sued for people being killed because of watching movies. Everyone who has an in dash dvd player bypasses this anyway.

If you unit is like mine you have to purchase a module that will allow the screen to display movies or tv while the car is in motion. Search on ebay for it.

Be careful, don't watch movies while you drive. It's nice to have on for passengers or just to have on, but limit it to being bored in traffic or waiting for someone in a parking lot to finish shopping or something.

i have the pioneer AVH-P7500DVD, i dont intend to watch while driving, its mostly for show and when i wait for my car to cool down or waiting for someone, ill hit it up..

and when you say bypass, how do you go about that? or even to search on ebay for it?

how about if you dont connect the parking brake wire at all? does that do anything?

You dont need a special unit to bypass the alpine, some wire and (2) toggle switches at $1.49 will do it. And seriously, if u dont know what you are doing and have to ask all these questions take it to a professional, thats why they get paid, because they KNOW what they are doing. Its people installing things without knowledge then bitch about no warranty that drive me nuts

**bump**

ok guys, i finally got it installed this morning.. took me about 2 and a half hours to wire it up (permantly) and place it in the din panel thingie and hide the wires from the headunit to the hide away unit (<--which was mounted behind the passenger seat).

at first, my intentions were to have the pocket shelf on the top and the headunit on the bottom but since there were like 394893849384 wires, it was hard to do that. so i had to leave the pocket on the bottom and the radio on the top. it looks great.

i had everything ready to go but i forgot that stupid one neon green wire, the one that goes to the parking brake. i was like damn, what am i gonna do now? i said f it, let me at least enjoy the music, i turned on the stereo and listened to some music, my bro came with a dvd and said, here play this. i was like i cant but i put it in anyway. that stupid message came up with you cant watch a dvd while driving, i was like i knew that was going to happen. so, while the dvd still playing, i held the green wire at the same time thinking about what i was going to do, i touch the copper end and the picture showed. i was like WHOA! my finger has the magic touch!! LOL i took my finger out and it went away, i put it back and the picture showed again. so then i thought, instead of wiring this green wire to the positive side of the parking brake, ill ground it. i did it and now it shows picture all the time, with or without the parking brake up..

so another question i have is, what harm will this cause? except for a ticket if the cops see me? can that wire grounded instead of going where its supposed to go drain my battery or cause any electrical problems?

Go ahead, it wont be a problem. Electrically speaking, that "power supply" side of the switch (which isn't directly connected to a 12V supply) gets grounded whenever you engage the e-brake anyway.

^^thanks

i knew it wasnt gonna be a major problem, i was just curious to see if it will slowly drain my battery but it hasnt..

let me also add that its a good thing i kept the pocket and headunit the way it is cause even now, when i shift into first, my fist hits the radio a bit so if i woulda placed the headunit in the bottom space and the pocket on top, my hand will be hitting the screen all day..

thank god
