Anyone changed the color of TAN leather seats to black on the FD?
I have had GREAT results painting my door panels with this vinyle paint. I want to change my tan seats to black but I am abit afraid of ruining them. My tan floor mats were nasty, so I painted them black with the same paint and they look like they are factory black, so I know I can do my carpet too. I am concerned about the leather.
I took an old brown leather jacket and painted parts of it black and then 5 mintues later I scrubbed it and could NOT take the black paint off, it soaked into it. Its one thing to paint the door panels, another to paint a seat you get in and out of all day. What do you guys think? Anyone done this? I called a paint store that sales this stuff and they say its done all the time and it does not come off the seats.

the stuff I am using is called Dupli color Vynle and fabric paint. You can get it for 4.95 at auto parts stores.
I tested it on some leather at my house like I said and I am satisfied that I can use it on my seats so I will try it when I go on vacation.

My car is a 94 so everything is already black except the seats and the carpet. This stuff is GREAT. It takes 5 minutes to try and you can use any of the protectants etc. The doors are VERY tough, I messed up with over spray (u need to be careful) so I had to remove the door and put a strong acidic paint remover on to take it off, guess what? it does not damage the doors. you can scrub them, etc. The doors are very durable.
This vinyle paint will not come off even scrubbed with a scrub brush, so you should be ok. I waited 24 hours b4 putting the protectants on it.

Anyone have pics of this done? I'm probably getting my seats recovered anyway, but the carpet and the floor mats are worthy contenders for black paint.

Now with the floor mats, the carpet is thick so you have coat it quite a few times. If you don't coat it enough, when your foot moves the carpet tan will show through. I used a brush to scrub it in while I spray. The carpet should be much easier because its not as thick as the floor mats.

This is the most important piece. Notice the where the dash meets the door? Look at the difference between the door and the dash. Its like night and day. I must point out that my dash is in very good shape and not faded.
I used the glossy finish, in the end its more of a semi gloss. I really like how my interior came out. in 2 weeks I will do the seats and the dash, etc.

The stuff is pretty fantastic I must say, everyone can tell they look great, but nobody knows that I painted it. 1 bottle can cover 1 door if your lucky. By lucky I mean if you dont mess up. I made some runs on my passenger door and was a big mess, I had to take the panel off, put paint stripper and then scrup off with a scrubby. Just do nice and slow shaking the can constantly. I found that when I get near the bottom of the can that it will start to dry white on the door. If that happens get a new can. As far as for teh floor mats, it takes more paint, I guess about 1.5 cans will do a real good job on 2 floor mats. My estimate is I could do my entire car, dash, seats, carpet, door panels, all the panels in the back in about 15 cans or so. That includes the extra for the carpet. I think if you are real good you can do it in 10. For $5.00 per can, $75.00 to $100 is pretty cheap. Make sure the panels and dash are completely free of any dust. The floor does not matter if it has some dust. Anyone else find it amusing that nobody helped me with my question? I was trying to determine if anyone did this to the seats before. I think I will try it, the leather repair shop said it will work.

if the paint is not made for leather then i myself wouldnt use it but if you tried it on a piece of leather and the leather shop said it will work then go for it!! thanks for the great idea though..
