Either in dash or the visor flip downs? I'm thinking of hiding a monitor in the glovebox and getting a head unit that plays DVDs... Not for ricer or show purposes, but so when I take my son on long drives in it, he can watch his Scooby Doo DVDs or what-not. Every week, we do about a 2 hour car ride, and I'd like to have an in-flight movie for him. I'm wondering how well they last, because the portable DVD player with dual screens that strap to the headrests we got for our Blazer isn't exactly the greatest quality.

Several why, whats the question?? And Ultimatly how mutch are you going to spend on your project?? This isnt one of those "I want video in da car for 10.00" is it, or are ya just looking for a few pics?

I say just get a portable unit and he can put it on his lap while you drive. If its for show, then go with a perminent unit, but since its for the little guy go the portable route.

i got a indash touch screen that folds down to look like a stock head unit! and a rear view mirror with a invisible lcd in the corner that shows only when you turn it on!
but for a child i think like what john4 said a portable dvd player would be the best bet!

Now that all depends. My main reason for updating my unit is so that my passenger may watch videos on long trips. Plus I have Touchscreen access to my I pod. This helps greatly as I do not have to look at the Ipods small display while driving.

Give the kid a book. I think it's a bad precedent to set for kids to expect that they'll have multimedia entertainment for every second of downtime they ever experience. That's why we've got grown adults who need touchpad access to their iPods in their car, and walk around plugged into headphones 24/7 like adult pacifiers.

Here is my alpine iva-d310, car is dirty and im still installing it but you get the idea. It was about $850 off of ebay and I love it would never go back. I run my speakers off of amps and actually liked the visual eq it has too.

Here's a couple pics of my in dash dvd. Its a Pioneer AVH-P7800DVD. I've had it for a little over a month now and I love it. Touchscreen, bluetooth ready, ipod interface, and plenty more. I'm with purerx7, I'll never go back to a regular head unit. Sorry if the pics aren't that clear. They're from me cell phone.

I can't stand the fip ups (no offense) but they get in the way of the A/C and stuff, the motorized part can break after warranty and they stick out and attract drooling theives. A better option is double DIN. Most cars can't use it so theives look elsewhere and most of the time its kinda invisible since it's stock looking and they don't steal stock for money (you may get an *** that wants to replace stock for himself and doesnt want to pay for it). My choice was JVC with a 3.5" screen. It's enough to be viewable on and you can also add the visor screen if you like. Best of all its highly unlikely to get stolen becasue the screen is so small and it has a center channel that you can connect to an amp and retain the oem speaker. The center makes such a huge difference because all of the voice is center channel. In my truck I use the NAV 90% and video 10%.

GTFO and try and not to get in any accidents whilst squinting at your I-pod thats jacked in to the aux ports in the back of your head unit. If no ipod, then when your changing discs out of your cd case. These advancements are made for a reason just like the large buttons on your telephone.

+999 Im switching to the new Pioneer Double Din Unit soon. Its a better fit and It feels so right :-)

I always ended up feeling woozy and nauseas while trying to read in a car. No problem playing Gamegear or Gameboy, but give me a book and I'd have to lie down after a while.

i think it would be bad *** if some one could incorporate the hks camp system into one, havent seen it on a 7 yet. Would eliminate the need for all gauges other than wideband 02.

I most definately agree with you on the double din unit. Will be getting one of these for my ride. Not sure which one I want to use though. Thinking about the Eclipse but it's a tad bit pricy

I would, except he's two and a half, so that won't work. He'll either disassemble it, break it, throw it out the window, or all three.

If hes 2 1/2 as my daughter is, then he should be able to sit and just enjoy the ride. My 4 1/2 on the other hand needs the DVD on long rides.

I bought a headunit that plays DVDs (no screen though), so I am going to mount a screen in the glove box for him.

I'm also considering buying an in-dash DVD player for my car. I think the best route is getting a flush-mounted screen. Looks absolutely great and doesn't interfere with any of the interior gauges.
