Any paint/body guys on here?
Ok heres my question I'm going to look at an FC this weekend. The car is gold but the hood and sunroof don't match the rest of the car. So the car is going to need repainting. I don't really like the gold and sence the car needs paint I'm thinking color change. I'm thinking black or silver. Does anyone know about how much it would cost to do this? I don't need a show car paint job just somthing that looks good. I could do the prep work my self if it would cost to much to have it done profesionaly.

Maaco is pretty sweet if you're on a budget. Just find one that does good work...some of them have a shitty reputation.
The shop I used to live near charged $100 for a color change, on top of the normal fee. So for around 400-500 you could have a not-too-bad paintjob.

lol I was kinda wondering about that. I will have around $1000 to spend for a paint job but would love to spend less if it looks good and last lol.

NEVER EVER GO TO MAACO, unless you are selling this car very soon. They fix the clear coat with the paint so they dont have to do a lot of work, and it saves them a lot of time painting. This will cause paint to start chiping after a couple years. The paint is also rough feeling and when you look up close it doesnt look right.

Paint jobs that include painting door jambs/trunk jamb range from about $1300.00-8k+(this was chrome illusion). For the most part you get what you pay for, but I personally would never spend 5k on a paint job. Not of my own money anyways, if it's the insurance companys then it's a different story. If a shop gives you an estimate and it's alot of $$ ask him if you can prep the car yourself and see if he goes for it. It can't hurt to ask especially if you have an idea of how to do it and the resources to do it.
If you go to body shops to get estimates you may find someone to give you a hell of a deal or someone that maybe works there and wants to do some work on the side. I think it's feasable that you should be able to get your car painted with door/trunk jambs for around/under $1500.00. Will it look like a 5k paint job? Probably not, it probably won't be as detailed, but do you want to spend 5k on a paint job for a daily driver?

Thats what I'm thinking and if it came down to it I would just take the car to the race shop I work at. And just paint it myself. We don't have a booth but what the hell the racecars look good enough. And the owner painted his FB in the shop and that looks plenty good for a street car. It's not perfict but who cares it looks good from a distance and very decent up close.
