Another front speaker question
Hi,
Does anyone know what front speakers are compatiable with the 93' stock Bose systems. I am missing the front speakers and need to find a compatiable substitute. There are 4 wires going to these speakers which I don't think is typical these days.
I have been told that "The Bose system had amplifiers built into the speaker enclosure and used very low impedance speakers -- 1 ohm, I believe. Replacing the existing Bose speakers and reusing the amps would result in quieter sound levels, due to the higher impedance of the typical speaker. Not to mention Bose's typical built-in EQ."
I am still hoping there is a speaker out there that I can put in place of the Bose and still have reasonable sound and volume. Appreciate any help.

Short answer - no. They are very low impedance 4" speakers. The amp is in the plastic enclosure. If you don't have the plastic enclosure, then you will need one single channel amp and speaker per door, as well as boxes to mount them in. Two of the wires carry the sound - it's balanced, that is no ground, the other two are power and ground (for the amp).
If you want to put in replacement amps and speakers, the amps must have a balanced input. If they don't an audio shop can help you find a circuit to adapt it. Once you have standard amps. in there you can use standard speakers. If you don't have the plastic speaker boxes, I'd recommend finding some from a wrecker - there are RX-7 specialist wreckers. You can use either the non-bose box or the bose sytem box. The non-bose box will fit a larger speaker.
