Alright, it's been awhile...

I haven't had a car with a decent stereo system since I sold my FC.

Who makes the best subs and amplifiers now? I don't want to knock over buildings, I want nice, tight sound, so that I can enjoy my 45 minute drive to work. I'm thinking 10 inch or 12 at the max, and I would prefer to go with a single sub.

Any suggestions?

Audiobahn makes decent equipment. Not top of the line, but certainly not the worst.

i have an infinity amp, and a bazooka amp. they are both mono subwoofer amps....

i also have a bazooka 12" sub, and a pioneer 10" sub...all items excellent condition!...i got a great deal and will sell cheap. for example....bazooka amp and sub and box for $150

infinity amp and either sub, doesn't matter. $200

if you want specs and exact model numbers, let me know i'll find out.

What about those Kicker Solobaric subs? I heard they don't take up a lot of room and are pretty solid. (I'm talking about the L7 square ones...)

Are you looking for sq or just all out bass? Also how much are you looking to spend. For an all out sq sub I would reccomend focal subs, cleanest out their. Audiobahn makes ****, and they are not good equipment at all. Let me know how much your looking to spend then I can reccomend whats in your budget. Just remember just because its mainstream doesnt mean its good, I have over 4k in car audio, only mainstream item I have is an alpine hu, and my system is the cleanest I have ever heard.

Here's what I want: This is for my Audi A4. I want something I can mount in the deck behind the seats, firing up into the glass. I want the enclosure to be no more than 6 inches deep, so that I can still slide a stroller for my son underneath it. I already have a 6 disc changer hung from the deck in the trunk, so it will just basically fit around that. I am not going for insane bass... I don't want people to hear me from 15 miles away... I just want to be able to have it loud if I want, hit hard if I want, and sound really clean and tight. I listen to everything from country to rap, so versatility is key. Ideally, I would like to keep it in the $400 range for the sub and amp. The car is already wired for it, so I just need the sub and amp. I have a leather interior, so it can't fire through the seats, thus the reason why it's going in the rear deck. I can build enclosures just fine, I've built 5 or 6 before, and they always sounded great.... I tend to over engineer those, so they are solid.

Also, way back when, Fosgate subs were very good, Soundstream even better... Phoenix Gold amps were awesome, as were Orion amps... What about now?

look into "free air" subs; they use the trunk as a enclosure

So if I went with either a Phoenix Gold, Orion, or Precision Power amp and either Fosgate, JL Audio, or Soundstream sub, I would do just fine, right?

OK, I think I am going to go with a Sony amp. I figure that should be pretty safe. Still hunting for subs, though.

noooo

sony is bottom of the barrel as far as car audio goes. stay away at all costs.

for a good cheap amp get a hifonics. they put out clean power and sound pretty good.

for a good cheap sub with nice sound quality and gets decently loud with low power being run through it check out the adire audio shiva.

www.adireaudio.com (if you call the 12" shiva will run $125 as opposed to the $179 on the site)

http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/2822
^^ for my pick on a great amp for cheap.

if your going for PPI do not get the new ones. they suck and are overpriced. if you can find pre 2002 models grab them up cause those are some of the best amps made bar few (all of which are several times the price)

amps are the most important part of a good sounding sub...other then enclosure.

if you have the money you should not skimp on amps whatsoever. get the best one you can in your price range. and no more expensive hardly means better quality (sometimes within the same company as well ironically)

fosgate sucks...soundstream makes good AMPS the subs leave much to be desired. but be careful only 1 line of soundstream amps are actually quality and i cant think of what the hell the name is for **** right now.

phoenix gold makes pretty decent equipment for good prices but they are by no means awesome. orion has gone downhill their amps are pretty weak although their top of the line stuff is pretty good it is very overpriced.
