Alpine vs Boston Acoustic vs Clarion
im curious to how alpines decks and clarions fair against eachother, and alpines top of the line components against bostons components?
Alpine is the best low end stuff...Boston is def. high end, and VERY high end if you get their best stuff (re: speakers and components)
On that note, while you didn't list it as an option, I've always been a huge fan of Pioneer Premier headunits (Premier = not the crap you get from BB Or Circuit City... it's the higher end stuff you'll only find at Tweeter and other such stores). Alpine headunits are simply too complex and jumbled up for my taste. I love the controls on Pioneer units, very simple, very precise, and give you many options (w/o it being TOO many). In short, it's very user friendly. Plus, they have a few headunits that look GREAT (vs. Alpine units that look like a minicomputer lol)
My $0.02

Alpine and Pioneer both make good head units.
As far as speakers go, personal taste becomes the most important factor. The top speaker companies (at a sane price point) as far as engineering quality, IMO, are Boston Acoustics, Polk, MB Quart, and Infinity. However, subjective preferences certainly play a huge role in selecting speakers.

Look at my sig, alpine is the only "mainstream" thing I own. I personally like to own things that are not mainstream. In my opnion, alpine makes the BEST head units, sound quality wise, not compared to the best models of nakamichi or eclipse, but they are much more money. I have a alpine cda-9853 and it is much much better than my previous sony head unit. Also, I would NOT spend money on high end speakers if you are going to run them from the head unit, this will require a seperate amp to power these. I personally run rainbow pro comps, $600 importerd from germany and hand made. They are very very rare, and have never ran into anyone with them. I run a dennon amp from my speakers, and currently I believe their are only 12 in the country at a msrp of $1300. It depends how far you are getting in to it, I am an audiophile and wanted the best. Boston makes the best speakers out of the three you listed, especially their new z9. I do not like being like everyone else though, hence me owning a fd3s, and wouldnt go mainstream, look into dls, focal, morel, rainbow, diamond HEX, etc for not mainstream brands.

Also, old school Sony ES gear is top notch.
haha plagerized one of your posts, I have been into audio for more than 3 years, check some of my recent posts and you will find the same responses to the same questions. Although I do admit you are 10x smarter than me but I dont know about that in audio.....
If you want some speakers that are freakin' awesome for a great price, Infinities have my vote. I just got some Infinity Reference Components for 100 bucks brand new shipped, and they are very very clear, even on the crappy head unit sounds.

IMO, the best bet is to head down to your local high-end audio shop and listen for yourself.
See how everyone has a different opinion on what sounds best? It's all about taste, and what you like.
That said, of your choices, I'd pick the Alpine and the Bostons, with a nice W7 and a 500/1 to top it off.

Alpine head unit
Old school ppi (pre 2000)
Kicker or jl subs before they went over seas.
mb quart, Boston, or if you can find a pair of Cadence CWM6kit
Memphis also makes some good stuff
If you want Pioneer Premier go to Wal-Mart

Yup, I agree with this totally. Maybe Boston Acc speakers also, but the amp and subs definately JL.

yah old school ppi amps are known as the art series, and they are widely excepted as some of the best amps of all time among the car audio community. They are pretty expensive being for how old they are and being used, but check ebay they usually have a good number of those amps for sale. They would be great for front stage speakers.
