alpine usb/mp3 deck shutting off randomly and resetting, then works ok. help?
I have had an alpine ida x001 deck in my daily ('00 subaru 2.5rs) for a while. speaker wires from the deck aren't utilized, I use the rca pre amps to go to a pyle 7 band parametric eq and that goes to a pyle 2000 watt 4 channel and then to the speakers. the pyle unit is underneath the deck.
everything works fine but after about 5-10 minutes, the alpine will reset itself. it just shuts off and I have to turn it back on after a few seconds and then it works for a half hour or so without issue but all my settings are reset. it's annoying. I have the wires crimped and have checked them many. many times so its not that. the unit does this even when the car is still so its not bumps or anything. I was thinking maybe because the eq was underneath that heat was building up but then why would it work for a half hour after reset? I pulled the eq and left the deck out of the console so it could breath but same symptoms. anything else you guys could think of? would a better ground help? I think I have it grounded to the stock radio ground wire, I might have it grounded to chassis with removed paint for contact but its been so long I can't remember. I think it might be a faulty unit at this point.

I had a similar problem except mine was when driving with a pioneer deck. Turned out tobe a bad ground. So i would re-ground your deck first. Also possibly bad connection from main power wire.
Reason i say main power wire is because you say it resets completely right? As in you have to reprogram your radio stations and such?

I cant edit my post for some reason but also be sure that no wires from the eq are possibly arching the ground to your deck or visa versa. Sometimes its the smallest bit or wire showing that can do it as long as its placed in the right place when everything is all jammed back in the space provided for wires.

there are a lot of wires in a tight space but I have checked them several times. I think I will re ground it and see if its that. it resets completely, like pressing the reset button under the face (checked that too, not being pressed accidently). all settings/presets are reset. all wires are crimped well and electrical taped so arcing shouldn't be a problem but I will COMPLETELY remove all my crimps and tape this time and start from scratch to see if that fixes it. I should just freaking solder them together. other then this, the deck sounds and plays great. Do you think I should ground to the OEM radio ground wire or to the chassis? I still can't recall which I did but I think the chassis would be the better ground, no?
I just don't understand why it works for a half hour or more after the initial reset (runs 5-10 minutes, resets) if it was a bad ground. w/e, I probably f'd something and never found it anytime I looked. this will be the first time re wiring, re grounding from scratch since I initially installed it. meanwhile, the shitty dual deck w/ no backlight I put in the FC has been flawless in both cars and actually sounds decent with decent speakers (even makes my OEM FC speakers sound all right). $400 deck vs $80 walmart deal?lol

so yeah, either ground, or constant 12v.
yellow wire iirc is constant 12v

^what did you do to fix the contacts?
ya, mine shuts off if I press the face kinda hard (not really, takes little force) BUT it does not reset, just turns off, turns back on and continues my song from where it left off with settings intact so I don't think its that. I guess it must be the power or ground. it's not dependent on bumps or movement. I have tested that out.
it should be getting enough power from the OEM radio 12v right? (assuming its in good working order). I think I will solder the power wires and ground the hell out of it to make sure that's good. thanks guys. also gonna check connection at battery because my + is a little loose, I put a small screw in the top to keep it tight so the car can start but this radio problem started long before my terminal was f'd up. would the battery amperage have anything to do with it by chance? thanks, I'm obviously not a sound system guy. too bad I am a DIY-er as well, not a good combo in this case.lol
I will update this when I get around to fixing the issues. I work 7 days a week right now but might find time at the end of a day.

Check your wires in the actual harness its self as well. Since there is so little room you could be pinching.the power wire pretty bad and messing up the wire right at the harness. So it will stay connected most times but when warmed up or jostled could lose the connection. Not sure if this has ever happened before but its an idea to check out.
Also i would just ground it.through the harness if it is in good shape. That leaves less wiggle room for the ground to come loose like it could when its grounding to the chasis.
