Looking for a shop that can put in an alarm on my 93 RX. I got a Clifford @ Good Guys bout the installer said he couldn’t install it because the doors use a cable instead of a rod like most cars. I’m returning the alarm so can buy @ the install shop. ( yes I would like to doors to lock and unlock)

 

if there is a door motor in both doors there will be a central locking molude/ecu underneath the dash
somewhere. have a look inthe kickpanels by ur feet in the car were the wires go out from the body and into the door it should be in there

Only the least trained installers have a problem with it.

Just like many other Japanese cars designed in the late eighties and '90s that also have a cable system but not true central locking, you have two options. The expensive and the cheap.

#1 (the expensive) Get a Jspec Door lock motor and install it.

#2 install an aftermarket door lock actuator/motor to activate at the drivers door inner lock lever instead of the cable. This method makes it no different than you yourself flipping the lock unlock lever.

 

There are not true central locking systems on the US versions of our cars, so the drivers door is only a switch rather than a switch and motor.

My acuator burned out!

I had to have it disconected because it would not let me onen or lock the doors with the key. It really sucked to have to go through the passenger door. I don't like Clifford. But they are all bullshit, false sense of security, nothing but noise makers anyhow. Oh they add remote door locks ...woohoo, not.

 

Most better brand actuators have either a thermal switch or clutch assembly to prevent that from happening. You want to avoid using the cheap Tiawanese ones.

A good installer will often also have a dedicated fuse for the additional door lock motors to again help prevent the burning out of an actuator.
