AL door sill protectors

Sometimes you win one! I wanted the optional brushed aluminum door sill protectors to show off my newly reupholstered leather seats. Ten years ago you could get them from a couple vendors, including Mazda for about $100. Now they are scarce. I found them for $159 in Hong Kong ($$$shipping$$$), but there is a parts supplier in Canada that also had them for the same price. Canadian sill protectors arrived in three days- no ocean to cross- and were only scratched like normal for twenty years of wear. Can polish out the scratches. But- the gold annodized "RX-7"on the plate still had the plastic protecting film on it. Previous owner never took it off. I will have like-new sill plates for bargain price. Great news after years of taking it on the chin for Mazda parts prices.

My car has the same door sills ('93 Canadian Spec R1), and like you said, very light scratches that can easily be buffed out, but the bonus part was that the previous owner also gave me a brand new set still in the box that he purchased as a spare set just incase the originals got totally ruined.

I plan to apply a layer of clear 3M film to it if I ever get around to using them.

Gotta admit tho, its a very classy setup for a door sill vs the plastic ones.

Anyone know which spec'd RX7's came with them? I don't normally see them on most FD's.
Or were they a Mazda Accessories kind of upgrade?

What a great idea.

...and yeah, I remember dreaming about these 15 years ago. Great update.

I took mine to a local chrome plating shop to have a shiny new finish. But I guess I may have them tinted too just for protection (chrome plating wasn't cheap).

I used mine for a number years then powder coated them black. The powerder coat has held up much better to marks and scratches.

I thought of the same thing but isn't the logo embossed? I've decided to just put the film on the jambs themselves.
