aftermarket stero but speakers won't work

OK fellas riddle me this. I bought a Aiwa stero and after correctly connecting the harness I get no sound from the front speakers. The rears are removed. It was a Bose system beforehand. If I put the stock stereo back in they work fine. I believe it has something to do with the stock door speakers not recieving any power to the amp. However if this is the problem how the heck do I power them? Thanks

You are exactly right. I had this problem too, I let Best Buy sort it out but they said they just had to add a wire to the external amp, like an on and off switch. Sorry I can't give you any more detail.

contact crutchfield. there is a special adapter needed in order to make a non stock deck work with the speakers. some dude spent like 30 minutes chatting with me about it and made me feel confident where i will be purchasing my ICE

If your Aiwa head unit has a better internal amp(not familiar with Aiwa) then it would defeat the purpose by using the bose amp. My car is a base and I've never heard the bose system in use. Just one more thing to consider. I think Amar Bose uses speaker level inputs on all his stuff so bypassing it all together shouldn't be a big deal.

Bose AMP

Thw Bose speakers have there own amp and must have power to work at all. Crutchfield has an adapter that you have to use to be able to use an aftermarket stereo with the Bose system.(around $50) with wiring instructions. SCOSCHE is the name of the unit manufacturer.

Ah, I see. Each speaker has it's own amp. Man, I hate that crap. If it were me, I'd pull'em all and go aftermarket.

Amar has "some" stuff, mostly home audio, that sounds damn good. His car audio efforts are overpriced(you pay for it on the sticker price) and the sound quality is not that good. I used to do car audio installs professionally, ten years ago and always hated to deal with a bose system! Big PITA!

you can just run some speaker wire to the speakers from the head unit bypassing the bose amp all together..i have had to do this a couple of times myself..

Yeah, you should go aftermarket. Any decent aftermarket speaker is going to sound better any way. Not to push anything on anyone but I have a small sight selling mobile electronics and rotory performance at good deals. If you get the time, check it out at www.kickyride.com.

Yeah, you have to have an adapter or replace the speakers for 2 reasons. First, the speakers are 1/2 ohm which means you either have to replace them or power them with an amplifier that can handle a 1/2 ohm load. Second, the inline amplifier does not take to a 4 ohm signal from a standard head unit. I believe the adapter somehow changes the ohm load by changing the voltage or current.... Then of course you have to deal w/ that damn acoustawave system that takes up half of the trunk and makes spare tire access a pain.... My advise would definately be rip it all out and start from scratch! You will probably spend more time and money attempting to adapt the bose system then doing a complete system.... All I have to say is thank god I sold my touring and im now in a base model
