93 FD (NON BOSE) radio will not come out!

Hey all, and before I get the 'search' reply, I did, and I was actually very suprised on just how few threads there are on radio removal/install. Maybe mine is just being difficult, but I have everything unplugged from the back of the radio ( I even removed the a/c heater shroud to have greater access to the radio), and I have made my special radio removal tool out of coat hangers. I can get the retaining clips to release the radio, it will slide out maybe a quarter inch before it gets hung up on something. It is the origional tape deck only (I have an R1) headunit, and it just will not come out! It feels like something it holding it back and I cannot figure it out.

has anyone else had this issue while removing the factory head unit? any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

John

I think that may be whats happening. I am going to have to play with it when I get home from work. Thanks again. Is there anything I should do to the end of the coat hangers to help them grab on to the radio or something? or just leave the ends smooth?

Stock radios, either of them, are some of the most miserable pieces of equipment I've ever removed from a FD.

tell me about it! It is finally out! just took a lot of patients and muscle. I was afraid I was going to break something!

Now... new question. Where should I ground this radio??? There are literally NO bare metal spots with a screw/bolt in it that I could use?

What does everyone use?

so I looked at the wiring diagram, and the unused harness connector is the ground, so I will just crimp on a male connector to use the stock ground, problem solved!

I'm fairly certain there are a few bolts in that area that you could ground to. If you don't use the unused harness connector I can try and take a picture since I have mine out at the moment. =)

where did you find a ground bolt? I might have to make this ground cable longer, the pioneer harness gives a pretty short one.
