89 Convertible Sound
Well, as you may remember, my car was stolen in early August, recovered in mid August (minus several parts), totalled by the insurance company (I bought it back, and has been in the shop most of the time since then. I asked several questions of people in the Audio forum as well as the 2nd Gen forum who helped out immensely in deciding what to do in different areas. So let me first say thanks!!!
I'm getting ready to get the car back after being fully repaired. My wallet is about $5K lighter (on top of the $8500 insurance gave me), but I now have a virtually brand new car with 25K miles and a good sound and security system. I don't want to talk much about my security system, but I will say that it is very thorough with multiple redundancies. As far as the sound goes, I got the following:
Head Unit: CDX-M770 Black panel
Door Speakers: MB Quart Referenz 6.5" coax
Under dash Speakers: MB Quart Referenz 4" coax
Subwoofer: Rockford Fosgate HE2 10"
Amplifier (front spkrs/sub): Phoenix Gold XS6600 6-channel
Rear speakers: Retained stock headrest speakers and controls
Everything is a totally stealth installation (except the LED light for the security system and, of course, the head unit). I retained the stock speaker grills and everything else is underneath the spare tire cover behind the seats.
Other repairs include:
- Body work to front end, front quarter panels
- Repaint entire car
- Replace OEM BBS wheels (refinished - look like new)
- Replaced catback with Racing Beat polished
- Replace smashed driver's window
- Replace steering column parts/ignition lock
- Replace quite a few miscellaneous (but expensive) parts
I can't wait to get it back in finished condition - almost like getting a new car! I'll take pics and post them in the near future.
