I'm buying an 83 limited edition and would like to replace the head unit and speakers in the car. No subs or anything like that just speakers that sound good an fit in the stock locations. I've checked out crutchfield and don't know what to buy? I was thinking an Alpine head unit and kenwoood speakers all around? What do I need to buy and do to the car to make this setup sound good?
What's your budget? I ask as I've done a TON of research in this area lately for my rx7-vert and am also going for sq. If your going for Sq then componet(seperates) are the way to go. Although coaxial aren't bad either. Again what are you looking to spend??
A couple hundred bucks might get you a nice headunit, but you'd have no more money for speakers, etc..If I were you, go on www.ebay.com and search through the headunits there. Sometimes there are new ones forsale. Go with a Pioneer if you're not getting an amplifier. There's one in particular that I'd recommend to you, but I forgot the name!!! It does put out 50W per speaker (assuming you have 4 speakers in the LE). It will fit right into the stock radio location. Good luck!
Okay, $100-200 range.Hmmmm. I like options and if your willing to spend the coin this would be a good head unit. The pioneer DEH-3400 w/some decent eq's
and the fact it can read cd-rw/cd-r for $200. And as 85RXG7 said it's 50x4. As for speakers there's a lot of companys that make a shallow depth speakers in the coaxial dept. Infinity kappa series, the 42.3i 4" & the kappa 52.3i 5 1/4". Ea of these will run you about $100-$150ea. Don't like Infinity? Try the kenwood KFC series. Many of these coaxial are UNDER 2" depth. Why cheap too. Just keep in mind, you get what you pay for.
BUT if your willing to spend just over $200 the Boston Acoustic componets/seperates- 5 1/4 " FS50 series 2" MD will get you some nice sound w/ it's own crossover, w/the tweeter able to mount anywhere you'll get better acoustics. AND in the long run that may be all you need as opposed to spending $2-300 on all four speakers. Also Planet audio 5 1/4 PC58neo Carbon fiber woofer 2" MD but $250. Good Luck. Whew!

Get a el cheapo Pioneer DEH 1400 and some cheap 4 inch kenwoods and 6 1/2's.. Or maybe pioneer 4's and 6 1/2's. Can be had a Wal Mart or Sear's... Good luck but $200 isnt a lot to work with... But the ones I mentioned ought to do you pretty good. Just start rewiring, your dual amplified factory system...

Pionner or justa bout any deck will do 50X4 WLS (when lightening strikes) .. I just love how thye lie on all the decks now, I got an A/D/S amp thats 50X4, any deck rated at 50X4 wont hold a candle to it! Dont choose one deck over the other cause it has 45X4 instead of 50X4
Theres basically any difference...

Well I mean I would like to not spend a whole crap load lol. But I could probaly spend a little more here and there. As long as I have somthing that sounds pretty good and can take a little volume. I like to drive with the windows down and roof open. I want to be able to hear it pretty good over wind noise.
