Yeah Ive done a few of them. Never done them in the shock towers tho, mainly in doors.
But they should work perfectly in the shock towers. But make sure none of the backwave To the speaker can meet the front wave. Better, less technical way of putting it, is try to seal them up in the shock tower as best as possible. It will make better Bass if you make them 'appear' to be in a box...

Where do they sound better? the doors or the shock towers. and do you need an amp for them. i guess you would. could you just out those speaker backing plates, that crutchfield sells to seal them off?

Theres not gonna be much if any difference in sound quality as to where you put them, as long as its done right. But as far as imaging goes, getting bass from the rear of most cars isnt a hard task. I personally like a good front soundstage, and placing them in the door would work better in my opinion. Depends on what you want and how you want it to sound. Sound to people is like seeing colors. Same colors may look different to different people. To each, his own

I just went looking for where I explained the theory of propogation vs. modulation. And I'll be dammed if I cant find it.
Well anyways, bass is the movement of air, as is any sound. Well if you place a sub in the middle of a vehicle. What happens is some of the bass goes to the rear of the car and some goes to the front. Well when the 2 bass waves meet, the rear one is later, in time, than the front one, thus cancelling it a little bit.
(I could quote a couple of formulas here that deal with relativity of time and some other factors that cause this, but Ill spare ya a bunch of calculus and stuff). You open the hatch and WOW suddendly is sounds better, the reason is that the waves that were cancelling it a little bit, have now left the vehicle before doing anything to the front one. If you can place a sub into a corner of the vehicle, preferably at least a 1/3 of the drivers diamater from the nearest surface. This will gain you a better response and a little louder bass for the said power applied.
Now I think I misunderstood ya, you want to use a 6 in for a subwoofer? I think id stick to a 10 or an 8? Just my opinion.
Let me know, if you need some more help or whatever, Ill try to explain **** better and give you some technical assistance.
