3rd gen speakers above storage bins?

On my car they are little compartments or something, but it looks like you could put a 6x9 in there...
Do any cars come stock with that?
I want a little more punch than the front door speakers can give, and the sub takes up too much room.
Any ideas?

Yes the base models and im not sure but i think that maybe the r1's also came with speakers there. You have to buy the speaker mounting brackets from someone with a base model. And the speaker grills are $40 each new from a dealership.

Does anyone by any chance have any pictures of it with the speaker removed?
I' will probabily have to cut the plastic, right?
I just cant deal with having NO hatch space so i can have a little bass...

Max Cooper was nice enough to rip apart his interior and include pictures.

That might help.

I put a set of infinity kappa perfect 3.5" components in there. I didn't want to cut out the plastic behind it so I went with a slim, small speaker. There are some pics here:

you can fit 6x9's in there.... here's a few pics.... I recommend taking out that little bin, attacking it with a drememl, attaching your speaker ring to it (rivets), and voila...
