3d gen how to take out a/c vents in dash??

I know for the middle one there is 1 screw and for the one on the pass. side there are 2. But how the hell are you supposed to take them out without taking the dash off?

I don't want to take the dash out.
Can I just break them off where they screw in? I really don't care if they are screwed in or not I dont think they are gonna fly out if they arent down with a screw.

I hope someone can help with this

You yank it real hard and break the screws. It actually fits nice and snug without the screws.

puma I took every panel out already. I am talking about the a/c vent above the radio and the one on the passenger side above the glovebox.

zerobanger...that's what I was thinking....mazda makes it impossible to take them out without removing the dash so I think I'm just going to break them off and they should fit nice without the screws and if not I will glue them in because I don't think I'll ever have to take them out again

Mazda did some amazing engineering with the car, I mean you have to take the dash off to take the vent out, you have to take the door panel out to remove the speaker covers and the most awesome piece of engineering is the intercooler ducting, you need to bend the aluminum ac lines to remove it. I'm not joking. I had my ic ducting cut so it can pull out without bending those lines.

hmm well if the plastic is out, you should have any problem removing the vent over the radio.

as far as the one over the glove box, i believe that just pulling it should do the job

no, you are mistaken.

The middle one has 1 screw in a horizontal position and the head facing the motor and the one over the glove box has 2 screws facing the sky. (impossible to take these out)

Are you putting a shift light in the middle AC vent? Or are you painting the interior? Just curious...

painting

I already took everything else out and sanded it.
a few pieces have been painted by the body shop and it looks really nice

I don't know if you've done this already but if not and you want to save some money get 400 grit wet dry black colored sand paper and wet sand the pieces under a sink it works much easier and doesn't scratch up the pieces as much.

why do you want to remove them? don't tell me it's to paint them. Leave them black, i really don't think it looks good painted.

Yes it is to paint them

I didn't really think about it I just thought it would look nice

I just broke the middle one into pieces so it's too late

We'll see how it turns out

I'll let you know soon about if we have a deal or not

Zerobanger, what kind of car do you drive man? I was noticing your times you put down and was wondering if you were just kidding. If you have an fd and go 0-60 in over 8 seconds, then you are doing something wrong. I'm not trying to be a smartass, but stock times would be way better than that.
