Those who have utilized the stock speaker locations and a sub, how is the sound?
I don't want to lug around a 100# sub box or cut holes to install a stupid speaker.
The car is near mint and I want to keep the interior panels stock.
Anyone using the 4in speakers with a sub?
Or use the 4speakers with sub. It's a single Infinity powered sub.
I was planning on powering the 4 in with head unit and use the sub.
I don't need jarring bass so don't tell me to get 5 12in subs and power it with 5000w amp etc etc etc....

Your plan sounds fine to me, I see no reason that it wouldn't sound good. I'm not an audiophile but the stock speakers in my 1987 GXL sound fine to me with just a headunit. One thing I would like to stress here is that sound quality is a SUBJECTIVE matter. What sounds good to one person can sound like total crap to another.
Adding a 10-12" sub would be a nice touch if you approach and execute it properly. Actually, I've been considering a similar project by using a couple of 6" subs in my doors via some S5 or S4 Vert door panels and a suitable amp that can be tucked away smartly. While it's not the greatest audio option, it shows that thinking creatively and reusing stock parts found in our Classifieds section can create some impressive results while appearing to be completely stock too...

I'll see how it goes. The Pioneer is a 50w so should be able to drive the 4" pair.
If not I have an eye on a Rockford to power the 4 speakers.
Trying to see what I can work with no cutting and minimal weight.

Hey, hopefully I can put some light on this. I run 3 10" in the trunk with all stock speakers ... and the stock speakers are keeping up pace. The catch is to look at the THD in long form Total Harmonic Distortion set out by your head unit or amp depending where the source is generated.
Remember that it is not the power the will kill your speakers, it is the distortion that it receives.
Now be careful again every company has a different way of measuring. You want to check THD at full power so if its 50RMS channels .. what is the THD at 50RMS. The lower the number the better.
My head unit is at 0.08 or 0.008 THD I think, but would half to confirm.
Now if you buy a cheap sony, well you get what you pay for.
Good luck and hope you find what your looking for.
