1st Gen Rx-7 Subwoofer Set Up - Need Help
I had a nice 12" sub in the back of my 84 Rx-7 and sadly it got stolen. I even had a blanket over it. Anyway ..
I would like to put some subs back in but have them hidden. I once saw a photo of a 1st Gen here that have four 8" subwoofers hidden behind the rear tail lights. This is what I would like to do.
How would I go about doing that, over explain how to do that to my custom car stereo guy?
Thanks In Advance,
Tosh

it would take alot of fiberglass work, or you could do it the not as cosmeticly nice, and alot more wieght a custom wood box could be made. but fiberglass is the way to go. also note that you must be able to remove this box to access your tail lights. it also mush have not to big or too little of a encloser for each sub. too big will make you thump soggy and not crisp, too little wont thump very well. its about moving air. This is alot of work but its not too hard once you get past framing it out.
for frame you will need wood then just strecth fiberglass cloth over that and start resining it. I would seperate each sub so do the back and sides and then all the dividers before glassing the top. then you need to make some way to attach it to the car.
heres a few links to help you study up

for sub enclosures and other car audio ideas. also a guide to building a fiberglass sub enclosure out of your spare tire well. but will help with your idea.

back a few years ago i had my system stolen from my 81. so the insurance company replaced all of it. kenwood excelon comp. deck, 2 excelon amps, infinity kappa 6.5" in the rear stock spots and 6.5" kappa comp. in the front doors. I also had 2 kicker solobaric l7 sq subs. they were in wood boxs behind the rear carpet and against the taillights. this was the best setup ive ever had in a rx7. it left the car looking stock and you had the full use of the rear hatch. 2 things with this sub location. #1 if you have a rear wiper/washer the fluid bag will need to get removed as its infront of the drivers side tail light. #2 and most important. the boxs need to get water proofed. the hatch drain lines on mine were bent to help the tubing not pinch closed and cause water to overflow into the hatch. This happened to 1 side of mine. the solos are a small cf sub and the 8l7 was .33cf so it was a ideal spot for the box. I had the amps in the hatch, had a false floor built and covers for the amps so you couldnt tell they were there with the covers on. and other than the pods built on the doors the car looked stock. but dam did it hit. Sorry I dont have any pics
