1987 FC3 door glass

A few years ago I bought a pretty clean FC3 coupe. The passenger side door glass did not like to roll up or down very easily, so I assumed that the regulator was bad (Electric windows). Finally got into the door to replace the regulator, and this is what I discovered:

1: When I removed the bolt and the window moved 1/4"-3/8" away from the regulator and went up and down in the track just fine.
2. The regulator rolled up and down just fine.
3. When I hooked the glass back up to the regulator it would hang up (like it was sticky or something).

This door had been broken into previously, but a body shop repaired my RX-7 after an accident, and they said that the door was in perfect shape internally.

Is it possible that the door glass is out of a convertible, and that is why there is such a difference in mounting up the glass?

Thanks

no way its out of a convertible, convertible uses totally different glass

2 pieces in the doors - one fixed and one that rolls up and down

I see. Is it possible that between s4 and s5 the glass changed? Or is there a spacer or something missing?

No changes I used S5 passenger glass in mine.

Please describe "doesn't like to roll up/down very easily."

I did similar. troubleshooting.

Clean and Lube the tracks Like your life depended on it. I like dry silicone spray and powder graphite. A lot like white lithium grease but over time it tends to catch **** in it before ending up in the bottom of your door. Hit both the regulator's channel and both felt side channels/glass guides.

Bottom of the regulator there is excess cable with beads on it that slide into rubber tubbing as the window moves. Pull the cable/beads completely out and set it freely inside the door. Now operate the window. If it is better then the tube needs cleaned, lubed and/or replaced.

This was one of my problems. There is a plastic clip that goes around the rubber tube fastening it to the door which was slid up, causing some binding. and the tube was kinked in spots.

The window guides don't really have any adjustment. Just make sure they aren't bent. Remember it the metal it kinked a bit it puts pressure on the felt, and in turn the glass... I used a couple paint sticks and ran them up and down to make sure mine were good before lubing them.

Even after getting it to work it will likely be very slow. Some have done relay switch mods to make the power windows quite a bit faster. AusRotary.com • View topic - FC3S Power Window Relay Mod
