10inch sub volume. ???

Box size is 12x12x21. That's a volume of 1.75, is this too much for a 10? It's an infinity perfect 10.1 sub with an 800w kenwood amp powering it, It will eventually be two at some point. i'm doing a custom fiberglass enclosure for that.
Should it have a port on it? What exactly will a port do to it?
(kinda sub-box illiterate, but i wanted to do something myself, so here i am)
Another question.... I had an extra set of infinity 63.1 3-way 6.5 inch speakers... the mids and the highs are awesome but the woofer is crap. like... Total crap. I put them in the rear speaker towers (I have an FC) with the crutch field mounting brackets and XTC Cups. Is there anyway i can fix this... or am i going to need to bump up to something with a bigger woofer in order to get better sound out of it?

yeah I usually go with about .8 I try to stay under 1.... And I usually add a nice 3 inch dia port to it. I have a computer program that models the box and output, by giving it the subwoofer specs and interior dimensions of the car

What program is that?
Yeah the sub is big, and sealed. and it give alot of kick, but it takes up way to much space in my trunk. I think i'm going to go with something pre-made off ebay for 20 bucks or so. I built it, and ... I like it... but... it's just too damn big.
I want something more stealthy.... Any suggestions?

I won't let go
Subs ask for different cubes depending on a lot of things. Resonance freq., X Max and a few others (I can't remember right now) being some of the more important ones. Just cause it's big and the sub can handle a lotta watts doesn't cut it. Definitely .8 or slightly less as ejmack said, but I'd pass on the port. Unless you want to build a bandpass box which will be totally different, keep it sealed. If you listen to like hip hop and whatever and just want to drown everything else out and have it sound like mud, do whatever the hell you want, but if you listen to rock, pop, or other non dance type stuff, you'll love the tightness of a sealed box. Plus, if you do it right, you can hit pretty low too. Obviously, don't forget to stuff it.
