Weird ignition issue, firing twice per event..

First off, engine is a 12A, extend port, race exhaust, custom everything. Im running a E6X and 4 separate LS2 coils. When i first started her up, she sounded like a massive brigdeport, and a digital timing light (that also reads RPM) shows twice the actual RPM, and it looked like it was firing twice per combustion..

Having access to a oscilloscope, we started her again. Sure enough, it triggers the coils twice per combustion. Having access to a second E6X, we did another try, and the problem is still there at idle. If you rev it on the other hand, the signal decreases to one per event, and it sounds like a rotary should..

What the hell is going on here? Should i try a firmware update, or is something else horribly wrong?

On L1 how many spark events are you getting per revolution? You should see two per revolution and the tach on the timing light, when in 4 cycle mode, should read twice the rpm as what the engine is actually running.

Im seeing 4 per revolution, at least that what i looks like on the oscilloscope.. I also scoped the signal coming from the CAS, and the signal is excellent.

BTW, anybody know what the tolerance should be on the triggers? Im kinda close now, but i have tried several distances and the signal works fine either way.

Weird thing is that the other ECU also has the same symptoms, but only at idle..

If the ECU is showing the incorrect RPM then you have a trigger issue. If you're scoping the CAS at the sensor that does not mean the ECU is actually seeing a clean signal. Even if the signal is clean you may still need to play with the gain and filter setting to get the ECU to see what it needs. Sadly, the E6X is notoriously finicky about trigger setup.

Got her up and running good! Fiddled with the CAS and adjusted the gain a little bit... She now moves again, after 2 years in hibernation!
