Haltech Vacuum leak - Intake temp sensor??
So, I finnaly got around to putting a rubber cap where my filter goes...and putting a small hole in it. Then I took my compressor hose and put about 20 psi into the system.
I did find one leak I was not expecting. It was coming from the threads of the IAT sensor.
So, I tightened it untill the brass was against the greddy tb elbow. Still leaked...I used teflon tape...still leaked...even put a little oring on the sensor.
With all this tightening...I did bend the sensor
But it dosent leak any worse.
The only reason I can think of it leaking is this....
When I tapped the hole I used a regular 14MM tap. However, I would normally do a NPT tap that tappers the threads....like for a coolant sensor.
I am sure this is teh reason it leaks.
What did you guys do?
I am guessing if you used a straight tap like I did....yours should leak also.

If you have the big sensors, you need a 3/8" NPT male to do the threads, if you are getting air leak problems the other thing you could do is use epoxy on both sides of the the threads on the sensor hole. Its a dirty solution, but your other choise would be to remove the sensor from that hole, weld it shut and retap it with the proper male tap.
At least you found your vacuum leak. If you still have problems with it leaking, you can always try liquid teflon. The teflon tape works ok, but the liquid teflon works better, at least on everything I use it for.

James...... If you intake sensor is before the T-body... that vac leak isn't going to do anything... but it WILL create a boost leak (albeit a slight one)
whats going on that you are searching the cause????

Well, I was trying to stamp out any intake system leaks before I go into the serious tuning. I am still in the break in / tuning the vacuum stages.
That is a good point about the no vacuum leak since it is before the TB.
