spark question on e6k

My 86 has an e6k and for some reason there is no spark only when cranking. When the key is turned on it sparks and when stopping from cranking you can see the plugs fire, but not during cranking. The CAS lookes wired right along with the coils. Has anyone ran into this before?

What is your setup? Are you getting RPMs when you crank? did you wire up the ignition properly? What engine are you running?

Need more details to find out what is wrong.

its still the stock ignition setup. It shows rpms on the haltech data log when cranking and the inj pulse is also shown. I think i may have seen direct fire on the menu which would probably cause that, but it started to rain but it was on dist. and still the same thing. Its an 87 Tii block half bridged with a t04 turbo, just want to see the spark all the time.

How is the power side of the wiring to the coils?
Is it still stock?
Or did you custom install it?
If you did redo the wiring, did you make sure it has +12VDC when the ignition switch is in the cranking position?

ah that probably would help. I think the last guy wired it to a 12 volt on in the ignition switch.

Well now it has power on both on and cranking but still no spark during cranking. on the data page it goes to reconnect haltech during crank so that would probably cause something, but i can make it spark if i took out the cas and turned it manually. Time for more diag i guess.

What size injectors do you have? you got a wideband? are you plugs wet? or not?

I don't have a wideband yet. Their stock Tii injectors for now but just to get it to idle. I was using the street port map first since mines a half bridge but probably going to try the stock one this week. During cranking it makes like a backfiring sound but not too loud.

You have a halfbridge with stock 550cc injectors?? my guess is that you're super lean, and prolly the map you have is for bigger ones.

Actually yea that probably could be it. I was wanting to get some 850cc for primary and 1000cc for secondary later on. When i get a wideband I'll check it out. Thanks

Also I just found out that it needs to be cranking faster than 180 rpms and found the starter bad so maybe it will start at higher rpms?

Yeah, getting the Haltech to first crank and start is a bitch.
You need a fully charged battery, and having a big battery charger nearby is always a good idea.

After messing with the timing, i've found that putting it on time it sounds like it backfires itself and slows down, so i turned the cas one tooth clockwise and it sounds so close to firing that its getting aggrevating. Guess i'll just have to wait till i get a wideband to figure anything out which is gay.

Just finding out that RA seals and used housings don't go well together at the beginning and hearing alot of people pull starting the car and taking roadtrips to get them to seal. Anyone else heard about that? Knew i should have went OEM.

i've had the same problem and it was the timing. the stock way would't work at all, but the hitman method fired up first try.

Holy hell a crap! My heart is still beating like crazy because I got it to start up and ooohhhhhwee. I just went to the parts store and figured I'd buy some starting fluid and use it and brap brap brap until i stopped spraying because of the white mile wide cloud of sweet MMO smell. lol So either the injectors aren't firing or it is running lean like you said but it started so mission 1 accomplished.

Jess I bumped the hell out of the fuel map, primer map, cooant map, and air temp map, and it still only starts on starter fluid. How much of a difference should the fuel maps be between a street and half-bridge?

Ahhh. Stupid me. I was so confident in all the wiring and stuff, but finally found a way to keep the injectors from flying out the rail, and found during cranking the front prim was only working so, get to find out whats up with that and maybe get to see how good that base map will work.
