Simple (perhaps stupid) question regarding the Haltech system...

...can you still run your A/C system with it?

Well, another question. Will it be considerably easier to install during the process of an engine swap as opposed to installing it on a car that already has a fully functioning wiring harness/ECU in place? I ask this because from what I understand, Haltech installs aren't to be taken lightly.

I've spent the better part of the day browsing the forum and reading up on my ECU options since I don't know too much on the subject (obviously).

The reason I ask is that I'm considering a turbo swap for the convertible. I was saving up to purchase an FD, but I think that money is going elsewhere (retirement investments). I make enough money to support a swap like this a used Jap-spec block, a shiney new turbo, and some sort of ECU upgrade. I'd be hard pressed to finance an FD, insurance, and maintenance. I'm guessing I should just work with what I have now.

Just trying to learn, thanks.

Thank you. I don't know how exactly I got the idea, but somewhere along the line in my reading I got the impression that the A/C would have to be ditched. It didn't make sense, so I thought I'd ask.

That may be the wise decision, but right now I'd rather have a faster car. I'm sure I won't regret the decision 20 years down the road.

Most people who go Haltech are very race oriented and just go ahead and ditch the AC for weight and cooling reasons. It also cleans up the engine compartment. I left my AC in tact and it works fine. I have a 3rd gen but I'm sure the 2nd gens are setup similarly. It would just be a matter of looking over the wiring diagram for a few minutes to figure out.

One thing you might want to look at is space for your intercooler. I can't remember how much room there is up there for a IC with the a/c still in place, also the a/c lines might get in the way of the IC tubing.

Something to look at

AC isnt a problem if u go with an FMIC kit. every one ive seen is designed to keep AC intact. my Greddy does.
