PWM controled Alternator advantages

Are there any worthwhile advantages in going with a PWM Alt over the old school alternators?
I have an S4 and im looking for a higher amperage alt.
I have the output run from the PS1000 already...Then its maybe an rx8 alt, sort out the pulley, and figure out the frequency.

Only thing I've seen is more stable output. And that's kind of splitting hairs. Other than that, I don't get the need for PWM control. But maybe I'm missing something.

Alright. So it seems to me that feature is there to support cars that currently have PWM alts installed.

Since you've seen many setups tuning these things. Will the S5 alt suffice?
Only thing I think is diferent from stock is brighter halogens, will have E-fans (guessing ~ a 50 amp initial load), and a Walbro.
