platinum sprint re lock timing

hello, just installed my sprint re and got it running and idling, just need to clarify if I need to set lock timing before going any further. I had everything in time mechanically and verified with timing light before installing the sprint re ecu.
I have a friend who has the older e6k ecu in his fc and asked if I had locked timing, because it was very necessary for his install. Any way, I had not read anything about this in the install guide, just need some clarifying.
btw- haven't rechecked timing yet, and will be checking in a few hours.
thanks

yes you need to make sure the ECU and the engine have the same timing. so you should lock it @-5* and make sure it agrees with the pulley. bonus points for revving it up and making sure it stays there.

*if you have the stock pulley the mark is -5, if you have a different pulley set the lock timing to whatever the pulley is, for instance the RB pulley is -10 tdc 10 and 20, so you'd use TDC or 10.

the extra bonus step is to unlock the timing, set it to the same value as the lock timing, and check again.

Yes make sure you don't have timing drift when you rev it up.
