no connection on E11

Hi,
I've been pulling my hair out over a problem with my E11. It's not communicating with my lap top very well. The ecu would load data for about 50% and stops. After a few minutes, it picks up again. When I am lucky, it loads to 100% but would get disconnected intermittently. The data gauges doesn't work during these "black outs" and I can't make adjustments. I checked the serial cable, +12V and ground wires on the ecu and they all are ok.

Is this normal? Has anyone seen this problem?

i would have said make sure you have 12 volts and good grounds...but you already checked that... so maybe you should reload the firmware???

Are you using a usb-serial adapter, there are plenty of threads that deal with these issues, searching will provide a few answers.

If you are not using a usb-serial adapter, there maybe something to the comms chip its not an uncommon problem and can easily be fixed by Haltech.

I am not using a usb-serial adapter.
Straight serial cable from haltech to lap top.

I gonna borrow somebody else's lap top and see if it does the same thing.

Make sure the settings on both the haltech software and the device manager are the same and they look like this (see pic).

Bring it down to 19k, what version of software/firmware are you using? check your serial cable, make sure its not a "crossed" one, if its the haltech provided one, should be ok. Also, you may want to pop open the serial connector on the haltech harness and make sure all the pins are on there correctly and one of them hasnt pulled out or broken off.

Another thing to do is you'll want to FULLY, and i mean FULLY!, update your windows, go to the windows update page and do all the updates you can on it, ive had that problem at one point, and it was solved after the updates.

Worst case scenario, you may want to consider sending the ECU to Haltech to get checked out.

I theorize that the com board in my lap on is damaged.
I will try going through a usb port instead.
Keyspan usb to serial cable is on order.
