ok i'll admit i'm a lil new to all this ignition stuff on rotaries, so i'm a lil lost..... what setups are u guys running that have been proven to work well on with a single turbo? this is on a 13bREW btw.

On a recent build we did with a E6X 13BT, PT61 single, and 2nd gen coils we got ignition breakup at anything over 15psi. Threw in a Crane Hi-6 (MSD 6A equivalent) and the problems disappeared. Ignition is now strong to 20psi.

 

If I remember correctly, the difference between MSD 6a and the MSD 6 is that the 6a has a RPM limiter and the 6 doesn't. The E6K has a programmable limiter, so I don't see the need for an ignition system that has one built in.

 

I'm running with a 6A on leading.

 

I havent had an X with MSD install, but i haved had E6S and E6K with a trio of MSD 6A's and the only weak link was factor plugs, that after 13psi died and missfired a lot, other than that, MSDs work wonderfully.


PS. Its 6A and 6AL, the L having the rev limiter built in.

 

so i can just get a 6A and be done with it? i don't need to get the coils as well?

 

The 6A is the standard, entry level ignition amp. The 6AL has the limiter. Yes, adictd2b00st, you can simply add a 6A to the coil setup you are currently using. However good coils can also make the difference between a good spark and a weak one. The MSD will help produce the best spark from whatever coil you are using.

 

It should also be noted that the factory FC coil packs are very capable ones, and when paired either with an ignition amplifier or with properly tweaked settings on the Haltech you can get great spark from it. And unless they are abslutely fried/ancient/beat up/turned to mush i would stick with them, or you will be runing over 30psi of boost, they are more than enough.
